National Hunt Chase Betting Tips: Corbetts Cross 22% backed for Tuesday finale

Bets are split between the three favourites in the National Hunt Chase.

The National Hunt Chase is a Grade 2 novice chase and concludes the first day of racing at the Cheltenham Festival. It is the 2nd oldest race at the Festival, due to be run for the 164th time on Tuesday.

Importantly, only amateur riders are allowed to ride in the race, a rule that was suspended in the 2021 renewal due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

That year Jack Kennedy was successful aboard Galvin. Jonjo O’Neil is the leading trainer since 1946 with six wins in the race whereas Patrick Mullins is the leading jockey having won the race four times, all since 2013.

The 2019 running, in which only four out of 18 runners finished, saw the distance of the race reduced from 4 miles and 1 furlong down to 3 miles and 6 furlongs.

Corbetts Cross developed into a classy hurdler last season, with the seven-year-old - trained by Emmet Mullins – picking up a win in a Grade 2. He was still in the mix for a place in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle last year before he ran out before the final hurdle.

A switch to fences has yielded a win and two placed efforts from four starts and he fell last time out through no fault of his own. He is a good horse, but his stamina has to be taken on trust, and his last start at the course ended in disaster.

He is pushing marginal favourite Embassy Gardens as the most popular selection for the Day 1 finale.
