Willie Mullins hopes to start Day 1 of the Festival on the front foot in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle with Tullyhill (3/1), backed in 20% of all bets for the opening race.
There’s a small drop off to the second most bet horse in the Festival opener, but those punters looking to take on Tullyhill have entrusted Slade Steel.
Rachael Blackmore takes the ride of Andy Holding fancy, Slade Steel. Despite Slade Steel being 7/1 on Sunday, Blackmore now finds herself riding a 5/1 shot in the Supreme. There are a couple of bookmakers who are as short as 7/2 on Slade Steel.
Slade Steel has accounted for 16% of the bets, which is marginally above Mystical Power who has accounted for 14% of the action in the market.
There’s then a considerable drop-off in the market.

With bookmakers running a range of money back offers on the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, it’s expected to be one of the most bet on races at the Festival.
Oddschecker spokesperson Sam Eaton said: “With Mullins having an array of favourites for the opening day, bookmakers will be keen to see Tullyhill be beaten in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
“There were a few experts who believed Tullyhill might lose the favourite tag for the opener; however, bookmakers are cutting odds on the morning of the race, with some already into 11/4”.
