Libberty Hunter is proving to be popular in the 2024 Grand Annual at Cheltenham Festival.
The Grand Annual is a 2 mile handicap chase and, being run since 1834, is the oldest race at the Cheltenham Festival as well as the oldest race in the existing jump racing calendar.
The race is named after Johnny Henderson, the father of trainer Nicky Henderson, who helped arrange the Jockey Club’s acquisition of Prestbury Park to ensure the Festival’s survival.
The race was moved in 2019 to Wednesday, having previously been the final race of the Festival on Friday.
No horse since the 70s has won the race more than once and the last 16 years has also since 15 different trainers win the race with Paul Nicholls successful in both 2016 and 2018.

There is a lot to like about Evan Williams’ horse in this race. It is a fantastic jumper and since it’s fall at Chepstow in November it has learnt a lot and progressed nicely.
Williams has sent him chasing three times in total including this, most recently beating Arkle 4th Matata in a novice handicap at Cheltenham two months ago.
It has a perfect record on soft ground and with Harry Cobden on board there’s no reason this horse can’t progress further and build on its win here on New Years day.
