When does the Flat Racing Season start in the UK?

Flat racing is back even with so many big jump events still to come.

We're about to get into a new season of flat racing in the UK and Ireland, which kicks off with the Lincoln Meeting at Doncaster on Saturday (headlined by the Lincoln Handicap) and runs until the Futurity Trophy meeting back at the same venue in late October.

What date does the flat racing season start?

Flat racing occurs all year in the UK and Ireland thanks to the use of all-weather tracks; however, this Saturday at Doncaster (23rd March) is the curtain-raiser for Flat Racing on the turf.

When does the Flat Jockeys Championship start?

Just to make things confusing, the Lincoln Meeting does not mark the start of the Flat Jockeys Championship, which only takes in races from the Guineas Festival, held 3-5th May (headlined by the 2000 Guineas & the 1000 Guineas), until British Champions Day at Ascot (19th October).

Who won the Flat Jockeys Championship in 2023?

William Buick is the two-time reigning Flat Jockeys champion having won the award in both 2022 and 2023 (157 & 135 winners respectively).

Oisin Murphy was the champion in 2019, 2020 and 2021, while Silvestre De Sousa was victorious in three of the four years before that (2015, 2017 & 2018) - a sequence broken by Jim Crowley in 2016.
