Jonbon and Energumene meet for the first time in this weekend's Clarence House Chase.
The Clarence House Chase, one of Ascot's standout jumps races, is a Grade 1 steeplechase run over 2m1f. It serves as a critical test for speed-focused chasers en route to the Champion Chase in March.
This year’s renewal promises a blockbuster clash as Jonbon, narrowly beaten by Elixir De Nutz in last season’s rescheduled race, will face dual Champion Chase winner Energumene, who was runner-up to Shishkin in 2022 and third behind Editeur Du Gite in 2023.
Other entries include Boothill, Edwardstone, Libberty Hunter, and Unexpected Party, who will all be hoping to pip the two market leaders to the £175,000 prize.

Clarence House Chase Tips
Early betting through oddschecker indicates strong support for Jonbon who has received 69% of bets on the winner market through oddschecker since markets opened today.
Jonbon enters the BetMGM Clarence House Chase as the 8/11 favourite with Paddy Power, thanks to an unbeaten campaign that includes commanding victories in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham and the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.
Trainer Nicky Henderson is confident Ascot will suit his star, who has proven himself at the highest level winning 16 of his 19 races.
His only defeats have come at the hands of Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, El Fabiolo in the Arkle, and Elixir De Nutz in last season’s rescheduled Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham.
However, dual Champion Chase winner Energumene, fresh off a triumphant return in the Hilly Way Chase after a 593-day layoff, poses a formidable challenge.
He is no stranger to a top class performance at this course with his 2022 effort going down as one of Ascot’s most memorable in recent years, when Energumene fell just a length short as Shishkin’s famous late surge won him the race.
