Grand National Odds: Who is the favourite to win at Aintree next week?

Grand National Odds: Who is the favourite to win at Aintree next week?

The bookmakers are finding it hard to choose between the top four in the Grand National odds market.

There have been several changes made to the iconic Grand National at Aintree over the last few years. Until 2023, the maximum field size for the race was 40 but that is now 34 as part of efforts to make it safer for the jockeys and horses.

The fences have also been modified, the distance slightly reduced and the prize money increased, all leading to higher class horses winning it more recently.

Oddschecker expert Steve Ryder has been busy analysing the recent winners. If you're having a bet on the race it's worth checking out the best Grand National free bets available through oddschecker, while keeping in mind these top 10 betting trends.

  1. 22 of the previous 30 winners were aged between eight and 10 but the previous nine were aged nine or younger.
  2. 14 of the previous 16 winners were having their first run in the race.
  3. 14 of the previous 19 winners had won over 3m1f or further
  4. 16 of the previous 28 winners returned at an SP of 14/1 or less
  5. Eight of the previous 13 winners had finished 1st or 2nd on their latest start
  6. Seven of the previous nine winners were second-season chasers
  7. Six of the previous nine winners had run less than 10 times over fences
  8. Five of the previous seven winners had won last time out
  9. Five of the previous seven winners wore a tongue-tie
  10. Zero of the previous 10 winners had fallen or unseated more than once, six had never done.

Although Tiger Roll was able to win back-to-back renewals in this race in 2018 and 2019, last year’s winner I Am Maximus has to defy a few trends if being able to repeat his triumph. He is a best price 9/1 on bet365 at the time of writing and marginally pushed out of favouritism for a repeat win. So, who is the favourite?

Who is the favourite to win the Grand National 2025?

The bookmakers' favourite to win the 2025 Grand National is Intense Raffles, available for 15/2 on William Hill but as short as 5/1 elsewhere.

The progressive seven-year-old, trained by Tom Gibney, won the Irish Grand National on his final start last season. He was well beaten on his first two starts this season over hurdles before finishing 2nd beaten only ¾ length by Nick Rockett in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse last time.
