Grand National Female Jockeys & Trainers for Saturday at Aintree revealed

Grand National Female Jockeys & Trainers for Saturday at Aintree revealed

We check on the female representation in the big one at Aintree this weekend.

Those betting on the Grand National at Aintree tomorrow will be looking for the female representation in the world's most famous race - covering both jockeys and trainers. Find our runner-by-runner guide for a full analysis.

34 runners will go to post at 4pm on Saturday and there are two females in contention to win - one jockey and one trainer. A small representation, admittedly, but it does include the most female jockey of them all and a powerhouse in the training world.

Who are the female jockeys in the Grand National?

35-year-old Rachael Blackmore is the single female jockey in the 2025 Grand National at Aintree. In 2021, she became the first female jockey to win the Grand National in the history of the race.

Is Rachael Blackmore riding in the Grand National 2025?

Rachael Blackmore is riding Minella Indo in the 2025 Grand National, four years on from winning the race with Minella Times by 6 1/2 lengths from Balko Des Flos.

Trained by Henry De Bromhead, the 12-year-old Minella Indo will carry 11st 3 and comes in with form of 443-26.

He won the 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup before finishing runner-up the year after. Finished 2nd on his reappearance at Punchestown but was disappointing at Navan when 6th beaten 25 lengths over hurdles last time.

Blackmore opted for Minella Indo over Senior Chief, De Bromhead's other chance in the race, who will be saddled by Darragh O'Keeffe.

Who are the female trainers in the Grand National?

Venetia Williams is the only female trainer represented in the 2025 Grand National with Royale Pagaille under jockey Charlie Deutsch, second in the weights at 11st 9 and coming in with form figures of F-1P66.

Royale Pagaille won his second Grade 1 Betfair Chase winner this season on soft ground but has been below form since and would likely appreciate softer ground than he will encounter on the day.

Williams is one of only four female trainers to have won the race with 100/1 chance Mon Mome in 2009. Jenny Pitman is a two-time winner (1983 and 1995), while Sue Smith won with Auroras Encore in 2013 and One For Arthur triumphed in 2017 for Lucinda Russell.
