The 2000 Guineas on Saturday at Newmarket launches the Classic season - there is a clear bookmakers' favourite to win the race.
The 2025 renewal of the 2000 Guineas Stakes takes place at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile on Saturday 3rd May, launching the Classic season and opening the first leg of the prestigious British Triple Crown.
This Group 1 contest, run over a straight mile, has a rich history of producing legendary winners such as Frankel, Dawn Approach and Gleneagles, and continues to showcase the next generation of top-class sprinters and potential Derby winners.
Last year’s renewal added another historic chapter when Notable Speech became the first horse in 86 years to win the race without running as a two-year-old.
Trainer dominance will again be a major storyline, with Aidan O’Brien chasing an 11th victory, Charlie Appleby looking to extend his recent hot streak (two wins in the last three years), and John and Thady Gosden bidding for a breakthrough success with Field Of Gold.
Ballydoyle’s unbeaten star Twain was not one of the 11 declared runners for the race - click here for a runner-by-runner guide and betting selection from Steve Ryder.

Who is the favourite to win the 2000 Guineas?
Field Of Gold has established himself as the horse to beat at a best price of 7/4 with BetMGM in the 2000 Guineas after an impressive reappearance in the Craven Stakes.
The son of Kingman looked a class apart that day, travelling powerfully before asserting his authority inside the final furlong.
His profile fits many key trends for the race, having already secured wins over seven furlongs and at Group level as a two-year-old.
The only minor queries are that the majority of recent Guineas winners were making their seasonal debuts, and John and Thady Gosden are still seeking their first success in the race.
Nonetheless, Field Of Gold’s dominant Craven performance over course and distance has made him a deserving market leader.

Expanded is the narrow second favourite, having won on his debut at the Curragh over 7f before finishing a neck 2nd only a week later in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at this course.
The third favourite, meanwhile, is Ruling Court under William Buick. He finished 3rd to The Lion In Winter in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes on his next start before winning the listed Jumeirah 2000 Guineas in Meydan on his reappearance this season.
