A controversial letter in the Telegraph over the weekend has led for calls for Boris to step down
His comments in the popular newspaper repeated false claims surrounding the statistic £350m could be freed up after leaving the EU, which could then be made available to the NHS. Johnson’s letter not only produced a reaction from readers, but also fellow cabinet members.
Following the publication of the foreign secretary’s controversial words, his odds to be the next cabinet minister to leave their post were cut from 8/1 to as short a 11/4. In the same period, just under 65% of bets placed on the next politician to leave the cabinet have been on the former Mayor of London.
It’s not all doom-and-gloom for Johnson though, the MP’s ‘back seat driving’ has actually sparked a surge in bets for him to be the next Prime Minister. Just over 34% of the bets in the next Prime Minister market since Saturday have been on Boris.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek “Johnson's article in the Telegraph was presumably looking to build support around his political campaigns, but it seems to have struck the wrong chords with readers. Despite the £350m figure being widely discredited since last year's Brexit referendum, Johnson's decision to stand by the remarks have seen many predict that he will be the next man to exit the cabinet.”
