
Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt is a leading contender to become the next Conservative leader and replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.
The Minister for International Trade shortened from a general 8/1 in the next Prime Minister (PM) market to 5/1 following the resignation of Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid last night.
She is now 11/2 best price through oddschecker in the next Conservative leader market with Sunak at 7/2, although both are generally priced at 4/1.
Sunak is also battling Mordaunt for favouritism in the next PM market as he is as short as 5/2 with one bookmaker (29/5 best price) to replace Johnson as PM following his resignation as Chancellor.
The 42-year-old has taken the most bets on this market through oddschecker across the last 24 hours, with a quarter of all bets backing him to replace the current PM.

Leader of the Labour Party Keir Starmer has seen his price drift out from 5/1 to 14/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair, as punters expect the PM to be replaced before the general election.
Meanwhile, Betfred have shortened from 1/1 early yesterday to 1/10 for Johnson to leave office in 2022, with 80% of bets on oddschecker backing the PM to leave this calendar year.
In fact, since the news broke around 6pm last night, Johnson’s exit date to be 2022 has taken the most bets on oddschecker with 20% of all bets in that time frame.
