Rochdale By-Election Odds: Workers Party of Britain cut after Labour withdrawal

The bookmakers have slashed the odds for the Workers Party of Britain winning the Rochdale by-election after Labour pulled support for its candidate.

It has all changed at the top of the Rochdale by-election betting market after Labour pulled support for their candidate last night.

Labour released a statement last night confirming they have “withdrawn their support” for Azhar Ali after his controversial remarks around Israel.

Since the news of the party’s withdrawal, bookmakers have weakened Labour’s chances of winning the by-election from 1/3 to a shortest 5/4 (best price 6/4 on Sky Bet).

The new favourite with the bookies to win in Rochdale is now the Workers Party of Britain and their candidate, George Galloway.

Having had odds as big as 5/2 yesterday, the Workers Party of Britain are now 4/7 on William Hill to secure their first-ever electoral seat.

In the past 12 hours, the party have taken 67% of all bets placed with oddschecker to win the Rochdale by-election on the 29th of February.

Leon Blackman from oddschecker said: “Following the news of Labour pulling their support for its candidate, it has been all change at the top of the Rochdale by-election betting market.

“Previously strong favourites to win, Labour have seen their chances of victory weaken in the eyes of the bookies. Favourites at 1/3 yesterday, oddsmakers have adjusted their price to 7/4, representing an implied % chance change from 75% to 36.4% of winning in Rochdale.

“Capitalising on this drift in odds is the Workers Party of Britain and their candidate George Galloway. The party have never held an electoral seat and bookies believe they are now in pole position to win their first ever later this month.

“Previously at 5/2, their odds have been adjusted this morning to 4/7, an implied % change from 28.6% to 63.6%. We’ve also seen a surge of bets on Oddschecker backing them, taking 67% of all bets placed in the past 12 hours.”
