US Politics Odds: JD Vance favourite for Trump’s Republican VP

There is a new favourite to be Donald Trump’s running mate.

It has been one of the busiest weeks of the year on oddschecker for US Presidential Election betting as the drama continues to unfold.

Republican VP Odds

In the race to be Trump’s running mate for the election, it’s JD Vance who has become the betting favourite to be the Republican Vice President

Over the past 24 hours, we’ve seen JD Vance surpass Doug Burgum as the number one contender on oddschecker.

His odds have improved from 5/2 to a shortest Evens (implied 50% chance) since Thursday morning as Trump is set to announce his running mate next Wednesday (17th July). He is still a best price 11/8 on AKBets.

So far on Friday, JD Vance has taken 30% of all bets on oddschecker to be the Republican VP, up from 8% in the week preceding.

Long-term favourite, Burgum, has seen his chances take a hit in response, going from 2/1 to 3/1 (best price on Paddy Power). His total bet share has decreased from 23% in the past seven days, to 7% so far on Friday.

Democratic Candidate Odds

Meanwhile, in the Democratic Candidate market, we’ve seen the betting favourite change three times between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this week.

After the NATO press conference yesterday, where Joe Biden called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “President Putin” and referred to Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump”, we’ve seen Harris again become the betting favourite.

Following last night’s press conference, Biden’s odds drifted from 4/5 to 13/8, currently leaving his probability of being the Democratic Candidate at 38.1%

Harris, on the other hand, has seen her chances improve with the oddsmakers from 9/4 to 6/5 (at best price). She is a shortest 4/5 on Sky Bet.

Since the press conference finished, 51% of the bets on oddschecker have backed Harris to be the Democratic Candidate, compared to 28% for Joe Biden.

That 51% of bets for Harris has increased from 34% in the seven days prior to the press conference.

Democratic Candidate Best Odds Implied Probability
Kamala Harris 6/5 45.5%
Joe Biden 13/8 38.1%
Gavin Newsom 16/1 5.9%
Michelle Obama 16/1 5.9%
