Punters have flocked to the markets following the news that the Duchess of Sussex has given birth.
After Buckingham Palace this afternoon announced that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has given birth to a baby boy, punters have rushed to the markets to bet on the name of the child.
The name Ivy had been as short as evens in the market earlier today, prior to the announcement that Meghan had given birth to a boy.
Most of the top names in the market had been girl’s names, with Diana close behind Ivy and punters seemingly convinced the baby would be a girl.
Now the favourite according to bookmakers is Arthur (5/1), the name of the Queen’s great uncle. There are plenty of traditional family names in the running with Albert (6/1) and Philip (6/1) close behind.
However, some might think Harry and Meghan would be more inclined to depart from the norm and avoid the usual royal names. Alexander is right up there, as short as 6/1, while Spencer is as short as 14/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The Duke of Sussex was keeping his cards close to his chest when addressing the press earlier, suggesting it could be a couple of days before we find out what he and Meghan have named their first child.
“Plenty of the early money had gone on Ivy, but since it was announced Meghan had given birth to a boy, it’s Arthur that is leading the running.”
