BBC SPOTY 2022 Odds: Stokes to challenge huge favourite Beth Mead

Ben Stokes is the 40/1 in the BBC SPOTY odds market but Euro 2022 Player of the Tournament Beth Mead remains the huge favourite.

Ben Stokes has come in from a best price 50/1 to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022 having followed up his T20 World Cup final heroics by leading England to a first test series win over Pakistan outside the UK for 22 years.

He is now as short as 16/1 with one leading bookmaker, but can still be backed at a best price 40/1 to win the award on Wednesday 21st December.

Mead, however, remains the huge SPOTY favourite (1/16 best price) having scored in four of England's six games at Euro 2022 including a hat-trick against Norway. She had been a general 9/4 with bookmakers in the days leading up to the final against Germany.

However, her part in the final victory at Wembley saw her come in to 2/5 - a price that has only shortened in the subsequent four months.

The 27-year-old was voted Player of the Tournament and claimed the tournament’s top scorer prize despite finishing level with Alexandra Popp on six goals, as she registered more assists (five) than her German counterpart.

Outside of Mead and Stokes, the only other realistic winner is Ronnie O’Sullivan, who had been as short as 7/2 with some bookmakers before the final of Euro 2022 on Sunday 31st July. The 'Rocket', who clinched his seventh World Snooker Championship in May, is now a best price 50/1 (worst 20/1).

And finally, the biggest market drifter of the last week is unfortunately Harry Kane (100/1), who suffered penalty heartache as England exited the 2022 World Cup against France.

The Three Lions captain had been 7/1 with one bookmaker before the match in Qatar as fans started to believe football was coming home
