Wimbledon Odds: British best chance at first home champion since Murray revealed

We take a look at who has the best chance of following in Andy Murray's footsteps and lifting the trophy at SW19.

British hopes at Wimbledon 2025 are riding high after a historic opening round that saw 10 home players reach the second round, the joint-best total since 1976 when 12 players went through.

Among them is Jack Draper, Britain’s top-ranked male player and world No. 4, who breezed past Sebastián Báez to underline his status as a genuine title contender .

In total, seven British men made it through, the most at any Grand Slam since Wimbledon 1997, sparking fresh optimism that a long-awaited singles champion could emerge.

It’s been nine years since Andy Murray last lifted the Wimbledon trophy in 2016, and no British player, man or woman, has made it back to the final since.

But this year’s crop, led by the in-form Draper and former US Open winner Emma Raducanu, are generating genuine belief.

Jack Pinnington Jones, ranked world No. 281, produced one of the standout performances of the tournament so far with a straight-sets victory over world No. 53 Tomás Martín Etcheverry, while Dan Evans booked a second-round showdown with Novak Djokovic after easing past fellow Brit Jay Clarke.

From rising stars to seasoned campaigners, we break down who stands the best chance of making a deep run at SW19.

Britain’s hopes in the Wimbledon 2025 women’s singles draw rest firmly on the shoulders of Emma Raducanu.

After dispatching fellow Brit Mingge Xu in round one, Raducanu produced one of her best wins since her 2021 US Open triumph by defeating 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets.

While Raducanu flies the flag, Sonay Kartal has also emerged as an unexpected star, backing up her first-round upset of 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko with a composed second-round win over Viktoriya Tomova to book her spot in round three.

However, the wider British challenge has thinned. Katie Boulter, tipped by some to make a run after her win over Paula Badosa, exited in round two, while experienced names like Heather Watson, Harriet Dart, and Francesca Jones fell early.

Back Emma Raducanu to Win!

Britain’s men are making serious noise at Wimbledon 2025, led by Jack Draper, the world No. 4 and fourth favourite for the title.

Draper eased past Sebastián Báez in straight sets with the Argentine retiring two sets down, booking a second-round clash with 2017 finalist Marin Čilić, as the 23-year-old continues his bid to become the first British men’s singles champion since Andy Murray in 2016.

Behind Draper, the British charge is deeper and more impressive than it has been in decades. Cameron Norrie has rediscovered his Centre Court magic, edging out Roberto Bautista Agut and 12th seed Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thriller to reach the third round.

Dan Evans also progressed after seeing off Jay Clarke in an all-British opener, while Jack Pinnington Jones stunned world No. 53 Tomás Martín Etcheverry, and Arthur Fery pulled off one of the shocks of the round by eliminating 20th seed Alexei Popyrin.

Although Oliver Tarvet, Billy Harris, and Henry Searle fell short of reaching round three, the seven British men to reach round two marked the country’s best showing at a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 1997.

With a mix of seeded talent, surprise wins, and home-court energy, the British men’s draw has ignited serious hopes of a deep run, and possibly, just possibly, a title challenge at SW19.

Back Jack Draper to Win!
