Who are the Sports Personality of the Year 2024 Candidates?
After narrowly missing out on gold in Tokyo, Keely Hodgkinson claimed what she'd been craving most, a gold medal at the Olympic Games. She blew away the field in the 800m in Paris to stand atop the podium for the first time at a major competition, as well as Team GB's first track gold since Mo Farah in 2016.
Luke Littler is also in contention following his remarkable year in darts. Bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old at the PDC World Darts Championships, Luke 'the Nuke' has gone on to win three major events including the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series. He would become the second youngest to ever win the prize at just 17 years old.
Elsewhere, Joe Root's stellar batting performances for England cricket have put him in with a chance, as well Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, who won the Champions League with the Spanish side before helping England to the Euro 2024, where the Three Lions lost to Spain.
Alex Yee, who won a stunning gold in the men's triathlon at the Paris Games, and Sarah Storey, who added two more gold medals to her incredible collection at the Paralympics, make up the candidates.

Has a Darts Player Ever Won Sports Personality of the Year?
With Luke Littler sitting second in the favourites, the teenage sensation would be making history if he was to lift the trophy on December 17.
No professional darts player has ever won the award, which dates all the way back 1954.
The closest any darts player has come to winning the award was, Phil 'the Power' Taylor.
The 14-time PDC World Darts Championship winner came second in the event back in 2010, beating the likes of Jessica Ennis-Hill onto the podium. He was defeated by horse racing royalty Tony McCoy.
