Who Won Eurovision Last Year? Key Trends to Watch in 2025

Who won Eurovision last year and what trends can we follow this year to find the winner?

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 delivered everything fans have come to expect from the world’s most-watched music competition: drama, dazzling performances, and a result that kept audiences guessing until the very end.

While the build-up to the grand final in Malmö was dominated by Croatia’s Baby Lasagna and his viral hit Rim Tim Tagi Dim, it was Switzerland’s Nemo who ultimately stole the show with the electrifying and deeply personal track “The Code.”

In doing so, Nemo not only secured Switzerland’s first Eurovision win since 1988, but also made history as the contest’s first non-binary winner.

Who Won Eurovision Last Year?

Switzerland wasn’t among the early frontrunners when the 2024 Eurovision betting markets opened. In fact, They opened at odds of 30/1 when betting began in November 2023 - giving them just a 3.2% implied chance of winning at that point.

However, the tide began to turn rapidly.

Nemo steadily gained traction in both the odds and fan polls following the release of The Code - their odds were dropped to 12/1 four days after it's release.

With its unique mix of opera, rap, and electronic pop - and a deeply personal narrative about self-discovery and identity - the song connected powerfully with juries and fans alike.

Perhaps we will see more of the same with the likes of France, Netherlands and Austria's acts this year.

Nemo eventually became favourite to win in late April after impressing with their first live performance and remained around the top of the betting throughout.

While Croatia’s Baby Lasagna and his viral hit Rim Tim Tagi Dim were widely tipped to win and even traded at odds-on prices at times - pushing Nemo out to second favourite at 5/1, Nemo triumphed by 44 points, thanks largely to a dominant jury vote performance.

Eurovision Trends

While betting odds are an important gauge, fan support and pre-show buzz can be just as telling. The OGAE fan poll - compiled from 40 Eurovision fan clubs across Europe - has historically been a useful predictor.

In 2024, it successfully identified three of the final top five, and in 2025 it has spotlighted Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, Finland, and Malta.

Of particular interest are:

  • Netherlands (33/1) – Now among the market movers following a powerful semi-final performance by Claude with C’est la vie.

  • Finland (16/1) - In with a real chance and will be a crowd pleaser with Erika Vikman's eccentric song and performance.

  • Malta (200/1) – A dark horse with strong fan momentum that could surprise on the night.

The favourite in late April/early May has also won in five of the last six years. This year that was Sweden who are currently 21/20 favourites with AKBets.

Since 2015, the Eurovision winner has also finished in the top two of the biggest Eurovision poll (Eurovisionworld), topping the poll 7/9 times. This year that is also Sweden with Austria in second.

Also since, 2015, the Eurovision winner has been the most bet on country on oddschecker 6/9 times.

The most bet on country is... you guessed it, Sweden.
