Betting Tip: Under 2.5 Goals

It’s an all London affair as Premier league meets Championship on Tuesday night in an intriguing EFL semi-final cup clash. Spurs come into this one on the back of a fantastic run of form at their new stadium and serial silverware winner Jose Mourinho has a major chance to reach a much sought after final against one of the Manchester clubs.

Mourinho was brought in for one reason, to fill the trophy cabinet. He’s done well to juggle this competition with a strong effort in the league and qualification in the Europa League. Bringing in a few extra bodies in the summer thrown in with greater luck on the injury front has made them a real force to be reckoned with. That being said, I don’t think this will be a walk in the park for Mou and co.

Brentford were tipped by many for promotion to the top flight after narrowly missing out last year. Thomas Frank has made the Bees more resilient and difficult to beat, they’re always competitive and have dumped out no fewer than four premier league teams already en route to the semis. They play with good balance in their 4-3-3 formation and despite losing key men in the summer they still have some really exciting players in Ivan Toney, Brian M’beumo and Josh Da Silva. Ethan Pinnock and Pontus Jansson have formed a solid partnership at centre half whilst Henrik Dalsgaard has improved immeasurably this season.

They’ll be comfortable enough in possession and not fear Spurs. Mourinho tends to be a bit more risk averse when it comes to the business end of competitions and the price of 5/4 on under 2.5 goals just looks too big to me, I’d have the unders and overs at a similar price in this one.

Betting Tip: Pierre Hojbjerg To Be Carded

Brentford have accrued three or more cards from their opposition in over half of their away games this season and have players like Sergi Canos, Matias Jensen, Toney, M’beumo and Da Silva who all can attract fouls. One mainstay of the Spurs side this season has been Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and he’s got the bite they need in midfield, and has impressed. Discipline isn’t his strong point, though, and quotes of 9/2 on him to be carded look generous.

The Dane averages the most fouls per game for the North Londoners at over 2 per game and I can see him struggling with Da Silva’s progressive runs through midfield. He’s already tallied up 4 cards this term, that could become 5.
