Villarreal vs Liverpool Tips

Betting Tip: Liverpool Win and Under 4.5 Goals

It’s been a common theme for Liverpool recently to put in professional performances without completely blowing away the opposition. Just as we saw against both Newcastle United and Everton either side of their first-leg victory over Villarreal in the UCL last week.

The ‘Yellow Submarine’ has also seen a lack of goals on home soil lately, with just one of their last seven home matches across all competitions seeing more than two goals and given they will possibly still be without a number of key players for this one, I’d be surprised to see a high-scoring affair here.

Villarreal were able to stop Liverpool from scoring for almost an hour until their defence was finally breached. Boss Unai Emery has promised a different game when the two teams clash here but I personally think it will follow a similar format and be a close encounter.

Jurgen Klopp won’t allow his side to rest on their laurels and another closely fought win looks likely for me here. At odds of evens, I’ll take Liverpool to win with fewer than 4.5 goals being scored for a point.

Betting Tip: Under 3.5 Cards

I’m dipping into the card markets here as I believe this line is a bit too high. When the ‘Reds’ have travelled around Europe for their respective UCL matches, cards have been somewhat of a rarity. Four of their five away UCL matches have witnessed fewer than four cards and it’s due to the fact that Liverpool keeps the ball moving and rarely gives the opposition a chance to get close to them.

Danny Makkelie is the man at the whistle for this one and he often likes to let games flow. He took charge of Liverpool’s trip to AC Milan where he showed a grand total of zero cards.

It’s easy to think, given the game state, that cards could be on the agenda here. However, the visitors should be able to handle the occasion and judging by previous performances, I don’t see there being four or more cards in this match.

I’ll take under 3.5 cards for another point.
