The favourite Clipsham Gold is respected in her hat-trick bid but she now runs here off a 3lb higher mark and preference instead goes to TRANS MONTANA (best priced at 10/3). The Clive Cox trained filly has finished 2nd on all three starts this season including one over this course and distance when she was only beaten by a head.

Trans Montana has finished 2nd off marks of 64 on her previous two starts and although the handicapper has raised her 2lbs for her latest effort, her course experience could mean she has the advantage over Clipsham Gold.

This looks a really competitive renewal of the Yorkshire Oaks but preference goes to ALPINISTA (best priced at 9/4) who I expect to extend her winning sequence to six. The Sir Mark Prescott trained mare won three Group 1s in Germany including a victory over the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Torquator Tasso before winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on her reappearance when she had the likes of Lone Eagle, High Definition and Hurricane Lane all well beaten.

Alpinista won a listed race on fast ground at Salisbury earlier in her career so this ground shouldn’t be a concern and I expect her to win her fifth Group 1 in a row.

The Dominic French Davis trained DARCY'S ROCK (best priced at 4/1) has been running consistently well on her previous three starts and she can hopefully continue her good form at the track. She finished 2nd over this course and distance by ½ length in July off a mark of 46 before winning over 7f here by 2 ¼ lengths on her next start.

The handicapper raised Darcy’s Rock 7lbs for that victory up to a mark of 53 but she ran well to finish 2nd last time at Wolverhampton. She switches back to turf off the same mark and she should also be better suited by this drop back to 6f. William Cox, who rode her to victory on her penultimate start, is back on board and I expect her to prove hard to beat.
