Unai Emery’s second spell in the Premier League has gotten off to an excellent start having won three of his four matches as boss of Aston Villa, including a 3-1 victory of Manchester United and a 2-0 win over Tottenham last time out. But he failed to beat Wolves in any of his three meetings with them as Arsenal manager and does not have the best record against Julen Lopetegui. So which way will this one go?

Aston Villa vs Wolves Stats

  • Struggling Wolves have conceded in seven of their eight away matches and twice or more in half of their road fixtures
  • Aston Villa have scored at least two goals in three of their four matches since Unai Emery took charge
  • Three of the last five opposition right-backs have received a card when Wolves have played away from home

Aston Villa vs Wolves Prediction

Betting Tip: Aston Villa to score 2+ goals

The Villa fans couldn’t have asked for better since the appointment of Unai Emery. In his first four matches, he has overseen three victories, as many as Villa had achieved in their previous 13 league outings prior to his appointment.

What’s also impressive is that across their three recent victories, they scored at least twice in all of them and were unlucky not to score a second in their defeat to Liverpool after dominating the match for large periods.

The Villans now welcome rivals Wolves to Villa Park and they have to feel confident that they can secure victory here given the peril that the visitors find themselves in. The appointment of Julen Lopetegui has done little to help Wolves and goals are still hard to come by. They’ve scored just 10 goals so far this season, the lowest in the league and they have been handed defeats in five of their eight away matches.

I think Aston Villa have the momentum right now and I think they could overwhelm Wolves with their athleticism and sustained pressure. I like the hosts to win but i really like the 11/10 available on the hosts scoring at least twice for the fourth time in five matches under Emery.

Aston Villa 2+ goals - 1.5pts @ 11/10

Betting Tip: Ashley Young to be carded

This fixture has produced plenty of cards in recent times with the last six meetings at this venue witnessing a total of 23 yellow cards brandished. This particular match looks primed for a few cards with both outfits consisting of players who utilise pace but also aren’t shy of committing rash challenges.

Ashley Young is no stranger to a yellow card having already picked up three in the league so far this season and he looks a good option to go into the book once again here.

When Wolves have been on the road, three of the last five right-backs have gone into the book and Young will likely be up against Daniel Podence on Wednesday evening. The Wolves wide man commits his fair share of fouls and it could turn into a bit of a physical battle between the two of them.

Referee Jarred Gillett has awarded 3.38 yellow cards per game on average and Wolves opponents have seen at least two cards in seven of their eight away matches. Cards look likely for the hosts and I'll have a play on Young being one of those carded.

Ashley Young to be shown a card - 0.5pts @ 11/4
