A stumbling Liverpool play host to a rejuvenated Everton in this edition of the Merseyside Derby and the hosts have found goals difficult to come by, as evident by the fact they have not won a single game this calendar year. Can the Toffees cause an upset here under their new manager?

Liverpool vs Everton Stats

  • The Merseyside Derby has finished 0-0 more often than any other Premier League fixture
  • Liverpool have scored just one league goal in this calendar year
  • Darwin Nunez has hit four or more shots in half of his Premier League appearances at Anfield this season

Liverpool vs Everton Prediction

Betting Tip: Darwin Nunez over 3.5 shots

The Uruguayan arrived with a big reputation after scoring 48 goals in 85 appearances for Portuguese outfit Benfica. He looks to still be finding his feet at Anfield but surely it’s a matter of time before he comes good given the frequency he is able to get into goalscoring positions and get a shot off.

Somewhat remarkably, in the 989 minutes of Premier League action he has had this season, he has registered 61 shots, an average of a shot every 16 minutes. Liverpool currently occupy tenth place at the time of writing and wins are crucial if they want to push up the table.

However, Everton are enjoying their new manager bounce and clinched a win over Arsenal in Sean Dyche’s first match in the dugout. He’ll want his backline organised and will look to hurt Liverpool on the counter, but first and foremost, Dyche likes to have a solid foundation.

Darwin Nunez has registered at least four efforts at goal in half of his Premier League appearances at Anfield this season and I like the 11/10 available on him covering this line once again.

Darwin Nunez over 3.5 shots - 1pt @ 11/10

Betting Tip: Under 2.5 goals

No other Premier League fixture has finished 0-0 more often than the Merseyside Derby and this one looks likely to be a closely fought affair again. Sean Dyche’s men claimed a much needed victory against league leaders Arsenal last time out and they’ll be eager to go unbeaten once again.

Liverpool have struggled with injuries this season but the players they’ve had available also look a shadow of their former selves. Mo Salah has been underperforming, Fabinho doesn’t look his spritely self and they look much easier to score against.

Sean Dyche wants his teams to be physical, demanding of themselves and to be willing to put their bodies on the line. He will be expecting even more of that here when they travel to arch rivals Liverpool and for me, the unders look extremely tempting.

The majority of this clash is likely to resemble an attack vs defence training drill and a single goal could be enough to edge a victory for either team. The hosts just don’t look ruthless at the moment and I think they’ll struggle to break down a spirited Everton side and as such, under 2.5 goals looks to be the way to go.

Under 2.5 goals - 1pt @ 11/10
