All eyes and hopes will be firmly on the young Haiti star when they take on the Lionesses at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. They’re ranked 53rd in the FIFA rankings and the odds go a long way to showing the gulf in class between these two outfits.

England are overwhelming favourites to get off to the perfect start here given they are the current European Champions and have quality in abundance. However, Sarina Wiegmann’s side have failed to win three of their last five FIFA Women’s World Cup opening games and Haiti will be keen to push forward and will hope they can at least score.

Getting on the scoresheet is something that Haiti have been proficient with recently and they will be full of belief that they can test this England backline. If they are able to get on the scoresheet, Melchie Dumonay looks to be one of the most likely candidates to etch her name into history. Her pace and direct style will be difficult to cope with and I will happily have a half stake play on her to score anytime.

Betting Tip: Over 10.5 corners

I’ll head into the corner markets for my second pick on this clash as I think there is some value to be had on the prices.

The Lionesses are frequently involved in matches with a high number of corners. In fact, their last five have averaged 10.2 corners per game in total and with both sides looking to utilise their pace in order to get in behind the respective backlines, corners look likely once again.

Over 9.5 looks to be priced accurately at 10/11 and poses no interest, however, in a match where I think we could see a plethora of corners, backing over 10.5 corners makes some appeal. It’s priced at a generous 6/4 and considering I would have it closer to 5/4, I see value in this particular selection.

It should be a fun opening game for the Lionesses and they’ll be expecting a big victory, but Haiti will pick their moments and believe they can catch them on the break which should lead to plenty of set-pieces from the flags. With that in mind, give me the 6/4 on over 10.5 corners.
