Manchester United vs Wolves Prediction

Manchester United would have been happy with their inaugural season under Erik ten Hag. The club lifted the Carabao Cup, ending their trophy drought and setting the one for future success. They also secured a return to the Champions League by finishing 3rd in the Premier League. However, they did have their fair share of problems throughout.

Ten Hag’s team seldom looked in control. This was particularly evident in their matches on the road. They conceded 14.26 shots per away match last season. The average shots for a team in a Premier League match is 12.64 so United need to improve in that regard.

They have been busy in the market and that will no doubt change the way they play. Andre Onana replacing David De Gea will mean Ten Hag’s men are more adept at playing out from the back. Rasmus Hojlund also gives Ten Hag a focal point up front but he is unavailable for this one.

Julen Lopetegui was brought in by Wolves last season and things looked to be heading in the right direction under the former Real Madrid manager. However, disagreements over the summer window came to a head last week and he departed the club.

Wolves appointed Gary O‘Neil just days before this clash so there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding how they will line up. He kept Bournemouth in the Premier League last season and he will need to showcase tactical nous if he wants to do the same at Wolverhampton.

Manchester United had a sublime record at Old Trafford last season. They won 15 of their 19 home league matches and lost just once. They scored an average of 1.89 goals per game but they will be looking to improve that goal count this year as ten Hag’s aims to ensure his side control games further up the pitch.

The Red Devils beat Wolves 2-0 in their last meeting at this ground. Ten Hag’s team had 27 attempts and an xG of 3.20. United were wasteful in front of goal on several occasions and it could easily have been a more convincing scoreline.

Wolves won just two away games all last season and their recent results on the road have been poor. They have lost six of their last seven away matches in the league; conceding 2.86 goals per game and scoring 0.43.

We can get odds of for Manchester United to win by at least a two-goal margin here.
