Long Shot - Antony Gordon First Goalscorer (Newcastle vs Luton) at 13/2 (7.50) with Unibet

Newcastle snapped a four-game Premier League losing streak with a dominant display on Tuesday night to beat Aston Villa 3-1. The manner of the victory drew widespread praise and plaudits from pundits with club legend Alan Shearer rightfully pointing out that it was “probably their best away performance of the season”.

Eddie Howe’s outfit appear to have benefited greatly from a pause in their fixture schedule in January. Indeed, Newcastle have returned from a two-week break with successive away triumphs at Fulham in the FA Cup and then at Villa Park in midweek to get their campaign back on track following an erratic first-half of 2023/24.

Injuries and suspensions have blighted Newcastle’s season, and Howe is again hamstrung ahead of Saturday’s showdown with basement battlers Luton. Aleksander Isak is unavailable after pulling up lame in midweek, whilst Callum Wilson isn’t fit enough to feature from the off, which should mean in-form Antony Gordon fills in as the Magpies’ central striker.

Gordon has enjoyed an excellent campaign and now looks underrated and undervalued in the goal markets considering he’ll be leading the line at St James’ Park. The 13/2 (7.50) available on Unibet for Anthony Gordon in the First Goalscorer market looks well worthy of long shot material with the ex-Everton ace already notching seven goals this season.

The £45m man produced an Expected Goals (xG) output of 0.45 xG at Aston Villa and has scored six of his seven-goal haul in the Premier League in front of his own supporters on Tyneside. With Gordon having netted against the likes of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea here, the versatile forward should fancy his chances against lowly Luton.

The Hatters enjoyed a remarkable 4-0 success over Brighton in midweek, though Town have only managed to keep their sheets clean twice since promotion, conceding multiple goals in six of 10 away days. Luton have leaked 11 goals in four trips to top-half teams and may struggle to contain an effervescent Newcastle with Gordon leading the home attack.
