Matthew O'Regan is back with four betting tips for this weekend's EFL action, fresh off two winners in last weekend's column.
15:00 Saturday - Sheffield Wednesday vs QPR
QPR Draw No Bet – 1 point – 3/4 – Widely Available
Sheffield Wednesday’s struggles are no secret, and only city rivals Sheffield United sit below them in the table. Yet their recent shock 2-0 win at Portsmouth perfectly captures the contradictions surrounding the Owls right now.
At Hillsborough, the mood is toxic. Supporters are boycotting in protest against owner Dejphon Chansiri, leaving home games tense and joyless. Away from home, however, the picture is different. Wednesday’s travelling fans remain fiercely loyal, creating a far more positive atmosphere — and fittingly, all four of their points this season have come on the road.
QPR, meanwhile, have recovered impressively from their 7-1 hammering by Coventry earlier in the campaign. Under Julien Stéphan’s guidance, three straight victories have lifted them to the fringes of the playoff spots, level on points but trailing on goal difference. Given the current climate at Hillsborough, the visitors look well placed to extend their run and leave with a result.
Stockport vs Reading
Stockport over 1.5 goals – 4/5 – Bet 365- 1.5 points
Stockport fell at the playoff semi-final stage last season, while Reading narrowly missed out on the top six. The two sides meet at Edgeley Park on Saturday, with the hosts eager to strengthen their promotion push.
Dave Challinor’s side have been inconsistent so far but still sit eighth and remain one of the stronger outfits in the division. Their home form was central to last season’s success — 52 points from 23 games, including five straight wins to close out the campaign — and Edgeley Park is again expected to be a fortress.

Reading, by contrast, have endured a miserable start. Just one point above the relegation zone, pressure is mounting on Noel Hunt. Their away form is particularly alarming: only two points collected, eight goals conceded, and the fifth-worst expected goals against (1.50). Up against a Stockport attack that has scored in every game and already notched 14 goals, the Royals could be in for another difficult afternoon.
15:00 Saturday - Gillingham vs Harrogate Town
Gillingham win – 4/5 – 1.25 points- Coral and Betfred
Fresh from last week’s win over Newport County, Gillingham are now 21 games unbeaten — a new club record. Gareth Ainsworth’s side are notoriously difficult to beat, and their resilience has taken them to the top of the table. The 52-year-old has not only steadied the ship but also rejuvenated a once-divided fanbase, with genuine promotion optimism building at Priestfield. The Gills have been flawless at home this season, winning all four games, scoring seven, and conceding just once.
Harrogate, by contrast, sit 16th. They snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over struggling Shrewsbury, but concerns remain. The Sulphurites have posted the league’s highest non-penalty xGa (15.11), underlining defensive frailties. Against a disciplined and resolute Gillingham that has also found the Midas touch in front of goal, Simon Weaver’s men look set for a testing afternoon.
15:00 Saturday - Grimsby vs Cheltenham
Grimsby win and over 1 – 8/11 – 1 point – bet365
Grimsby grabbed headlines by racing into a two-goal lead against Manchester United before eventually knocking the Premier League giants out on penalties. Since then, however, performance levels appear to have dipped, with a 3-0 defeat at Barnet providing a sobering reality check.

Even so, the Mariners remain sixth, having taken seven points from four home games — a run that includes a convincing 3-0 win over Crawley and a 2-1 victory against Newport.
Cheltenham, meanwhile, prop up the table after a miserable start. With just four points from nine matches, three goals scored, and 17 conceded, Michael Flynn has already paid the price with his job. The Robins’ away record is equally grim: one point from four games, one goal scored, and nine shipped.
If Grimsby can strike early at Blundell Park, the floodgates could easily open.
