Leg 1: Hull To Win

Blackburn are in dire straits. Fan frustration with the ownership continues to grow, with many supporters boycotting in protest. On the pitch, matters are no better: Rovers sit in the relegation zone and are eight games without a win, scoring just four goals in that run. Worryingly, only bottom club Sheffield Wednesday have won fewer home games than Blackburn this season, with Rovers managing just two victories at Ewood Park.

Hull, meanwhile, are defying expectations by mounting a promotion challenge after being widely tipped for relegation. Owner Acun Ilicali wanted fast, attacking football and appointed Sergej Jakirović to deliver it. The Bosnian has his side firing going forward, with Hull scoring 47 goals - the third-highest tally in the league. They arrive in strong form, having won three straight matches, and boast the Championship’s second-best away record, winning five of their last six on the road.

Middlesbrough vs Norwich

Leg 2: Over 2.5 Goals

Middlesbrough were flying under Rob Edwards before his departure to Wolves. While results were solid, performances hinted at an eventual drop-off. Instead, Boro have gone up another gear under Kim Hellberg.

The Swede has won eight of his 13 games in charge, scoring 25 and conceding 14 — an average of three goals per match. Nine of those 13 fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals, with the only exception a Christmas blip in which Boro failed to score across four games.

Norwich are also thriving under new management. With relegation looming, the Canaries dismissed Liam Manning and appointed Philippe Clement. Since the Belgian’s arrival, Norwich rank fifth in the table, taking 24 points from 14 matches. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 60% of those games, including five of the last six.

QPR vs Coventry

Leg 3: Over 2.5 Goals

No Championship side boasts a better record for home goals than QPR. Ten of their last 10 matches at Loftus Road - and 11 of 14 overall - have produced at least three goals. Julien Stéphan’s side sit 12th, just four points off the play-offs, having scored 26 and conceded 20 in 14 home games, which average 3.3 goals.

Coventry looked nailed-on for promotion heading into Christmas, but a wobble driven by poor away form has allowed the chasing pack to close in. Frank Lampard’s side are

now seven games without a win in all competitions. Nevertheless, goals remain a constant: Coventry have scored 62 and conceded 33 in 29 matches, an average of 3.28 goals per game. Eighteen of those 29 have gone over 2.5 - the same tally as Saturday’s hosts.

Luton vs Blackpool

Leg 4: Over 2.5 Goals

Things have yet to click for Luton under Jack Wilshere, who is winless in his last four matches in all competitions. They’ve also lost their last two away games 1–0, including defeat at ten-man Huddersfield. However, goals have been a feature at Kenilworth Road: under Wilshere, Luton have played 11 home games, with 10 producing at least three goals.

Blackpool initially showed signs of improvement under Ian Evatt, but five defeats in six have dragged them back into relegation trouble. Defensive frailties are the main concern for the Tangerines, having conceded 13 goals during that damaging run.

Wigan vs Lincoln

Leg 5: Lincoln Win

Wigan are in free-fall and sliding ominously towards relegation. They are without a win in five matches and sit just one point above the drop zone, with the mood around the club growing increasingly toxic. Fan unrest is building, with frustration aimed at both Ryan Lowe and the boardroom, particularly over their refusal to acknowledge the very real threat of relegation.

Performances on the pitch offer little reassurance. Wigan are averaging fewer than ten shots per game, highlighting their lack of attacking intent and creativity, and leaving them heavily reliant on fine margins to pick up points.

Lincoln, by contrast, arrive as a genuine dual threat. Michael Skubala’s side are exceptional from set pieces, ranking top of the league for expected goals generated from dead-ball situations. They also boast serious momentum, sitting second in the table, six points clear of Bolton with a game in hand.
