Niall Lyons has four selections at the 2026 Austrian Open in Salzburg.
This event returned to the big stage last year after a four year hiatus when the field assembled in Salzburg (a fantastic little place if you ever get the chance to visit!) however this time we move away to Kitzbhuhel and a new golf course for the tour.
This par 70 is comfortably below 7000 yards and for the second week on the spin we have a golf course that suits the shorter hitters.
Sterne, Premlall, Lindberg, Wiesberger and Gumberg are all recent winners on this tour and it must be said it's going through a strange period. Premlall was as big as 1000/1 when he won whilst Sterne had failed to break the top 50 in his previous six starts.
Not many punters are getting too close to landing winners lately but hopefully we see a change this week.
The course is at altitude so plays even shorter than the yardage is on paper and with water hazards in play in many parts it just screams Crans Sur Sierre.
That will be a solid base on which to build a shortlist who could go well here. A nod to any altitude wins in Kenya may be another angle in here as we seek to find some sort of profile on an unknown golf course.

Casey Jarvis at 22/1 (WIN)
Marco Penge ploughed through a handful of fields on the DPWT last year to secure a PGA Tour Card and in a similar fashion Casey Jarvis is doing the same.
His first trip to Augusta National resulted in a missed cut but he didn't dwell much on that making the cut at the PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago.
20th at the Zurich and 38th at Myrtle Beach were both fair efforts also. Dropped back down in grade he was always going to be a danger and last week it could have been an awful lot better than 22nd.
He ranked 7th from tee to green only to have a nightmare on the greens ranking 60th. Truth be told he is not doing an awful lot wrong since his two early wins during the season and I'd be bullish enough about him landing another before the year is out.
2 months ago he was a 14/1 shot in India behind a similarly ranked player like Straka in the shape of Akshay Bhatia.
What he has done since hasn't convinced me that he warrants a drift out to 20/1 and beyond and he rates as my best bet of the week.
Thriston Lawrence at 50/1 (Five Places)
I managed to resist the urge of backing Thriston Lawrence last week at Rinkven but this week I have lost that fight. The South African is going through a bit of a dull spell of late and that continued with a missed cut last week in Belgium.
However he appears to be slightly unlucky. I don't quite know what happened off the tee on the 17th of his second round last week but it appears he needed a reload off the tee (despite shot tracker saying he hit the fairway) and that resulted in a triple bogey right at the worst possible time. Had he parred that hole he would have made the cut by three shots and had an outside chance of getting into the mix on Sunday. However things aren't going his way right now and he was punished.
What he did have was 9 birdies over those first two days meaning he birdied a quarter of the holes he played. That doesn't strike me as someone in the depths of despair with his game and with his scintillating record around Crans Sur Sierre I'd be silly not going with him seeing that's my angle in here.
He opened with a 66 last week and hopefully he can get off to the same fast start in Austria and hold his place this time.

Andrew Johnston at 66/1 (Eight Places)
For many of the same reasons I backed Andrew Johnston last week I shall be going in once again. My concern last week was the putter not showing up but he performed quite well with that club ranking 17th in the field. His long game wasn't quite up to the standard of that in Turkey and Spain but he still had an outside chance heading into the final day.
He is showing really promising signs of late and a trip to this course may just have come at the perfect time. 3rd in Crans back in 2016 and then 3rd again in 2024 spells everything we need to know with Beef loving a short, narrow track.
A victory at Valderrama is another pointer as to how well he could go here again and although we're looking at a skinnier price compared to last week he should be able to keep this run going and at least threaten the places after his top 15 last week in Belgium.
Guido Migliozzi at 66/1 (Five Places)
Another who should be well suited to this sort of test is Guido Migliozzi. The Italian missed the cut last time out in Spain but prior to that was runner up in Turkey and 13th in China.
Migliozzi has won at Paris National, a course with plenty of water that demands accuracy from tee to green. He was won at altitude on a short Karen track in Kenya. Then we look to his form at Crans Sur Sierre and he has made 6 from 6 cuts there finishing inside the top twice and a further two top 15 finishes.
He certainly enjoys a tougher challenge which I don't quite think we'll get here this week but the course itself should be absolutely perfect for his game.
A runner up on this tour just two starts ago I definitely think the market has underestimated his chances here.
