We preview EFL League One and pick out the best bets for the season.
League OneSee All Odds
League One has become the EFL’s chaos division. Leicester City begin the season at 5/2, yet Birmingham’s title success in 2024/25 is the only time in the last nine campaigns that the ante-post favourites have actually won the league. Lincoln’s 103-point procession last season was another reminder that this division repeatedly produces surprise winners.
The 2026/27 line-up is arguably the strongest third tier in a generation. Nine former Premier League clubs are involved, while at least a dozen teams can realistically talk themselves into a play-off push. That depth is reflected in the market: Leicester are favourites, but no side is shorter than 5/2.
EFL League One Winner Odds
EFL League One Outright Winner Tip
Leicester are the obvious pick, and the projections back that up emphatically. The Foxes earned 52 points on the pitch last season before a six-point deduction dropped them into the bottom three, and their squad quality is miles above this level.
Russell Martin’s possession-heavy style may take a few weeks to settle, but once it clicks Leicester should dominate the ball against almost every opponent in the division. They are a club with Premier League resources suddenly operating in League One and just like the Wolves side of 23/24, they should use that to their advantage.
The bigger prices elsewhere are tempting, particularly Stockport at 20/1, but the outright call remains straightforward.
Best Bet – Leicester to win League One
The Foxes are simply too strong on paper and should have enough quality to pull clear over a 46-game season.
EFL League One Relegation Tips
Burton look the standout relegation play. Gary Bowyer’s side have survived by narrow margins in recent years, but this summer has been brutal.
Fifteen first-team players have departed, including key contributors, and Burton also face uncertainty over potential FA sanctions relating to agent regulation breaches. In a stronger-than-usual League One, that level of upheaval is a major concern.
Most models place Burton in the bottom four, and several project them as the most likely side to finish 24th.
Best Bet – Burton Albion to be relegated
EFL League One Top Scorer Tips
The market has underestimated Kyle Wootton. He scored 20 league goals last season despite being deployed as an emergency centre-back for much of Stockport’s final nine league and play-off matches. He finished only three goals behind the division’s leading scorer and has now reached double figures in seven consecutive seasons.
Best Bet – Kyle Wootton each-way Top Scorer
Wootton’s consistency and secure starting role make him the value selection, while Radulovic has the ceiling to win the race outright.
EFL League One Predictions
- Winner: Leicester City
- Relegated: Burton Albion
- Top Scorer: Kyle Wootton
Leicester’s class should eventually tell, Burton look vulnerable from day one, and Wootton’s remarkable consistency makes him one of the best-priced player bets in the entire EFL.
