How does Positive Expected Value (EV) betting work?

When bookmakers set betting lines, they estimate the likelihood of each outcome.

Value Bets, our Positive EV Tool available for Oddschecker+ subscribers, leverages advanced AI to perform 100 million projections each week and monitors 125 million live price changes daily. This enables it to identify bets that have a higher probability of winning than what the lines suggest.

Odds: 18/5 with Ladbrokes

Gjivai Zechiël Fouls Committed: 1, 1, 3, 0, 0

Barcelona have been ruthless this season, scoring 17 goals across their opening four La Liga games, and they should dominate possession at home against Feyenoord.

The visitors are missing several defenders and midfielders and could therefore spend long periods sitting deep, attempting to withstand wave after wave of attacks from Pedri, Rodri, Fermín López, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. That should leave plenty of defensive work for the Feyenoord midfield, with tackles and tactical fouls likely to be required.

Zechiël, a 22-year-old central/defensive midfielder, is one of the players expected to do that dirty work. He has already shown a willingness to put his foot in this season, picking up a yellow card in Feyenoord's last game - a 3-1 win at NEC in which he also scored and provided two assists.

He has also picked up three yellow cards in his last five Europa League games, which is an encouraging trend for this angle.

Roland Sallai To Be Shown A Card — 1pt

AI Probability: 35.17%
Odds Implied: 26.81%
Expected Value: +31.18%
Odds: 13/5 with betmgm

Roland Sallai Fouls Committed: 2, 1, 2, 2, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 4
UCL Fouls: 2, 0, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1
Flávio Gonçalves Fouls Won: 2, 2, 1, 3, 1

Sallai looks an interesting card candidate given the demands likely to be placed on him against Sporting.

Galatasaray are missing several key players, including Osimhen, Lemina and Singo, and could spend long periods defending away from home against a strong Sporting attack featuring Catamo, Gonçalves and Suárez. Operating at right-back, Sallai could therefore be asked to make a high number of tackles and recoveries.

He comes into the game with a recent yellow card too, having been booked in Galatasaray's last match - a 3-2 win at Başakşehir. He also conceded a penalty in that game following a physical challenge.

Sallai has picked up two yellows in his last nine games, and two in his last five Champions League appearances. His Champions League foul numbers are also encouraging, with 2, 0, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3 and 1 across his recent appearances.

There is a particularly interesting individual matchup here, with Flávio Gonçalves having won 2, 2, 1, 3 and 1 fouls across his recent games. If he is able to isolate Sallai regularly, the Galatasaray defender could be forced into a number of challenges.

With the match likely to see Sallai doing plenty of defensive work and a healthy +31.18% expected value according to the model, the 13/5 looks well worth taking.

Bukayo Saka Expected Goals (xG): 0.23, 0.63, 0.64 - highest in the Arsenal side this season
Bukayo Saka Shots: 4, 2, 3

Saka is expected to start on the right for Arsenal against Napoli tonight and looks a strong candidate to find the net.

The Arsenal winger has already scored twice in three Premier League games this season, finding the net against Coventry and Aston Villa, while he also looked sharp against Chelsea at the weekend and continued to get shots away.

His underlying numbers are particularly encouraging, with Saka's xG figures across those three games standing at 0.23, 0.63 and 0.64, the highest in the Arsenal side this season. He has also recorded four, two and three shots in those appearances.

Saka remains Arsenal's main wide attacking threat and one of their most reliable sources of goals. He regularly cuts inside onto his left foot, while his ability to attack crosses and cut-backs gives him multiple routes to goal.

The matchup also looks favourable. Napoli are missing Scott McTominay and have other absences, while their start to the season has been inconsistent. Arsenal are strong favourites and should create chances, particularly through their wide areas and on the counter.

Saka also has a strong Champions League and Italian opposition pedigree, and with his current shot volume and xG numbers pointing in the right direction, 5/2 looks a worthwhile price for him to get on the scoresheet.
