EV Eagle returns with five player betting tips for Tuesday's action, covering League One's Plymouth Argyle, the Championship's Middlesbrough, La Liga's Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, and a home tie for Alavés.

How does Positive Expected Value (EV) betting work?

Bookmakers price up matches based on their own estimate of how likely each outcome is.

Positive EV betting looks for the moments where a price doesn't fully reflect a player's real chance of hitting a market, using recent form, underlying shot and involvement data, and head-to-head trends to spot value the odds haven't caught up with yet.

Marcus Tavernier Over 0.5 Shots On Target — 1pt

AI Probability: 62.72%
Odds Implied: 57.14%
Expected Value: +9.76%
Odds: 3/4 with William Hill

Tavernier Shots on Target last 10 games: 3, 4, 0, 1, 1, 0, 2, 1, 0, 1

Tavernier is averaging 2.00 shots on target per 90 in the Premier League this season (8 SOT from 352 minutes), with 3.30 shots per 90. Last season he still cleared 0.79 SOT per 90 across a full campaign. Seven of his last ten have produced at least one effort on target.

Real Sociedad’s right side is compromised tonight: Álvaro Odriozola is still out long-term with an ACL, and Jon Aramburu is suspended after a red card. Héctor Fort is expected to fill in. Tavernier attacks that flank, and he already has three Premier League goals from four starts - including four shots in the 2-2 at Brentford in his last game.

You need one SOT from a player hitting two per 90 against a patched-up full-back.

Guilherme Smith Over 1.5 Shots — 1pt

AI Probability: 63.67%
Odds Implied: 47.62%
Expected Value: +33.71%
Odds: 11/10 with Star Sports

Smith has taken 15 shots in 421 Pro League minutes this season — 3.20 per 90 — with 4 shots on target (0.90 per 90). He is starting at left wing-back for Union Saint-Gilloise, and the usage jump from last season (~1.20 shots per 90) is the whole tip.

Over 1.5 shots only asks him to match a rate he is already clearing by a wide margin. Away at Plzeň he should still get forward on the overlap and in transition; Union have been flying domestically and Smith has been one of the shot outlets from that wide role.

Igor Paixão Over 0.5 Shots On Target — 1pt

AI Probability: 66.61%
Odds Implied: 51.28%
Expected Value: +29.89%
Odds: 19/20 with Ladbrokes

Paixão Shots on Target last 5 games: 1, 0, 1, 2, 1

Paixão produced 1.05 SOT per 90 in Ligue 1 last season (23 from 1,971 minutes) on 2.60 shots per 90. Four of his last five games have a shot on target. This season’s early clip is quieter (0.70 SOT per 90 from 250 minutes), but he is still predicted to start on Marseille’s left in Istanbul.

Besiktas at home have been excellent - six competitive home wins under Italiano with a stack of clean sheets, and only two Super Lig goals conceded at home - so this is not a soft defence. This is  astep up in quality of opposition thought and Paixão’s habit of cutting inside and striking makes him valeu here.

Marseille have lost three straight in Ligue 1, which is why the price looks good.

Amine Gouiri To Score Or Assist — 1pt

AI Probability: 51.41%
Odds Implied: 35.71%
Expected Value: +43.95%
Odds: 9/5 with Paddy Power

Gouiri Goals or Assists last 10 games: 0, 2, 0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0

Gouiri has 4 goals in 358 Ligue 1 minutes this season (1.00 per 90) and zero assists. He is also on 3.30 shots and 1.50 SOT per 90. Last season: 0.74 goal involvements per 90. At 9/5 the market is still pricing him soft relative to that start.

Besiktas’ home clean-sheet run provides the value but as we mentioned above this is a step up in quality.

Ozan Kabak Over 0.5 Shots On Target — 1pt

AI Probability: 56.85%
Odds Implied: 51.28%
Expected Value: +10.86%
Odds: 11/8 with Ladbrokes

Kabak has 2 SOT from 259 Bundesliga minutes this season (0.70 per 90) on 1.70 shots per 90, and he already has a league goal. Last season he sat around 0.67 SOT per 90 as a Hoffenheim centre-back — that is elite shot-on-target volume for the position.

They face OFI Crete: four consecutive clean sheets and no goals conceded in four home matches this season, including a 1-0 over Olympiacos. So this is a set-piece dart against a stubborn home defence, not an open game projection but truthfully Hoffenheim should be dominating this game comfortably.

Kabak wins aerials at a high rate early (north of seven per 90) and starts next to Hajdari. You need one header or scraped effort on target from corners and long throws.
