Let's hope for goals to rain with this 7/1 four-fold!
Southampton v Everton
We have a pick from each of England’s top four leagues, starting with the big dogs of the Prem.
Southampton and Everton have the joint-third-highest BTTS rate in the Premier League with 59%, but more encouragingly, Southampton’s number shoots up to 70% when playing at St. Mary’s.
The Saints have conceded at least two goals in their last five home matches, while it’s been over two years since a fixture between Southampton and Everton has seen a clean sheet.
Aston Villa v Hull
Both teams have scored in a whopping 70% of Aston Villa’s Championship matches this season – rising to 77% at Villa Park – which doesn’t come as a surprise considering how inconsistent they are.
Hull’s numbers are slightly lower (54% away from home), although this has been offset by the fact that they couldn’t really buy a goal at the start of the season; they have now won six in-a-row, with 12 goals in their last five away games.
When Villa are involved, BTTS is always a likely proposition – even more so when this Hull side comes to town.
Plymouth v Coventry
Don’t be surprised to see a few goals in this one.
Plymouth’s last four home matches have seen a total of 15 goals fly in, and Derek Adams’ side have kept just two clean sheets at Home Park all season.
Their BTTS rate at home is a healthy 62% which, considering Coventry have kept just two away clean sheets this season, sets us up nicely.
The Sky Blues have only scored 30 goals this campaign, but don’t let that put you off, as Plymouth have shipped a mighty 49 times this season – only Rochdale and Scunthorpe have worse defensive records.
Forest Green v Bury
Ending in Gloucestershire, I’m backing BTTS in Forest Green Rovers v Bury.
Both sides are in with a very real chance of automatic promotion – Bury are currently 2nd; Forest Green 7th – but this will be far from a cagey affair.
Forest Green are the side with the highest BTTS rate in the league (77%), while Bury’s tally is fourth-highest (61%).
Seven of the Shakers’ last 10 League Two matches have seen both teams score, which slightly betters Rovers’ tally of six in the same number of games.
A repeat of August’s 1-1 draw would be lovely.
