Start the Carabao Cup off in style with this monster 17/1 BTTS five-fold!
AFC Wimbledon v MK Dons - 19:45
Last season, 22 of the 35 Carabao Cup first round matches saw both teams score, and I’m hoping for more carnage this Tuesday.
It’s still very early in the season, and it’s always tough to predict how many changes the various managers will make for this round of fixtures, but I’ve identified five games which have great BTTS potential.
I’m starting off with the biggie: AFC Wimbledon v MK Dons.
Wally Downes has certainly made a name for himself at Kingsmeadow, although it’s away from home where he’s really excelled – on home soil, his Wimbledon side are very susceptible, and with 65% of their Kingsmeadow encounters seeing both teams score last season, I’m confident for a repeat on Tuesday.
Both of Wimbledon’s League One matches this campaign have seen both teams score, while newly-promoted MK Dons (who had a 70% BTTS-rate on the road last season) will fancy their chances of at least finding the net against the Wombles.
This’ll be a highly-charged atmosphere, and goals shouldn’t be in short supply.
Mansfield v Morecambe - 19:45
After playing out a 2-2 draw as recently as Saturday, Mansfield and Morecambe meet once again at Field Mill.
Though Mansfield should be far too strong for Morecambe, the Stags have looked a shadow of their former selves defensively this season, conceding twice in the first half in the opening two matches.
It seems like new Stags boss John Dempster hasn’t quite got his feet under the table following David Flitcroft’s sacking at the end of last season, and I’m confident the Shrimps will once again be able to exploit this and find the net on Tuesday (while also conceding in all likelihood).
QPR v Bristol City - 19:45
The four matches QPR and Bristol City have played collectively this season have seen both teams score, and I expect nothing different at Loftus Road.
I’ve been impressed with QPR this season, and they possess a few really good young players who can deal the Robins some damage – primary Eberechi Eze and Ilias Chair.
Bristol City are a better side than QPR on paper, and have the quality to find the net on Tuesday; with four goals from their last two visits to Loftus Road, I’m confident they will.
Grimsby v Doncaster - 19:45
Grimsby have impressed me so far this season; the League Two outfit have four points from their two games against Morecambe and Bradford, and I believe they’ll give League One Doncaster a really good game at Blundell Park.
Darren Moore’s Donny have drawn their opening two league matches 1-1, and I simply cannot see them hitting the heights of last season, where they finished in the play-offs under Grant McCann.
This should be a hard-fought match; well over half of Doncaster’s away games saw both teams score last season, and I think this is well worth backing on Tuesday.
Huddersfield v Lincoln - 19:45
My final BTTS pick is Huddersfield v Lincoln, at a really solid price.
The Terriers haven’t looked up to much defensively this season, and I can see them struggling against a Lincoln side who are not only deadly from set-pieces, but love a Cupset.
Both of Huddersfield’s matches this season have seen both teams score, while the Imps have won their opening two 2-0 – the latest away at Rotherham where—despite being pummelled for most of the game—they scored via two high balls into the box.
Lincoln’s physicality will cause Huddersfield problems at the John Smith’s, and evens is a good price to back both sides having joy in front of goal.
