Tranmere v Portsmouth - League One

Portsmouth are in outstanding form, and I’m confident they beat floundering Tranmere on the road.

The hosts have lost their last four league matches (as well as their last four at Prenton Park in League One), and this horror-downturn has seen them slip into grave relegation danger.

Pompey, on the other hand, have won their last eight in all competitions, and back-to-back away victories in the league sets them up very nicely ahead of Saturday.

Portsmouth - 1pt @ 7/10

Northampton v Port Vale - League Two

Northampton have been a trusty selection for me in recent weeks, and in my eyes, 11/10 to beat Port Vale represents great value.

The Cobblers, incredibly, have won eight and drawn one of their last nine home games (keeping six clean sheets during this period), and I see no reason why they can’t extend this run.

Vale, who have lost back-to-back away games—a defeat to relegation-battling Morecambe before a hammering at Swindon—are far from the worst side in the league, but they face Northampton at the worst possible time.

Northampton - 1pt @ 11/10

Exeter v Stevenage - League Two

I’m also a little surprised Exeter are as long as 18/25 to beat basement boys Stevenage.

The visitors are looking very poor indeed, and four straight defeats coming into this—most recently suffering a 3-0 loss at home to Leyton Orient—doesn’t suggest they’ll be up to much as they travel to Exeter.

Boro faced Exeter on the road just a few weeks ago in the EFL Trophy (where they lost 3-0), and considering the Grecians have won five of their last eight at home (drawing the rest), I’m in no doubt about the result here.

Exeter - 1pt @ 18/25

Scunthorpe v Cheltenham - League Two

I’ll end with what I see as the best piece of value in the EFL this weekend: Cheltenham to beat Scunthorpe away from home at 2/1.

Scunny, who recently pulled the trigger on Paul Hurst, have lost six of their last nine league matches, and just a single point from their last four home games is evidence of their plight.

Cheltenham, on the other hand, have won three of their last five, and while they’re winless in five on the road (drawing four), their opponents during this run have been Bradford, Crewe, Newport, Northampton and Port Vale, who are much stronger than the Iron.

The visitors hammered Scunthorpe 4-1 in their meeting back in August, and when you also see that they’ve conceded just nine goals in their 15 away games, it makes you question why The Robins are second-favourites.
