Alaves v Real Sociedad – La Liga – 17:30

First up, I fancy Real Socieded to beat Alaves at evens.

Alaves lost their first game back 2-0 against a pretty Espanyol side, and with goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco suspended after a bizarre red card, the hosts will once again have to make do with ex-West Ham ‘stopper’ Roberto in goal.

Though he played pretty well against Espanyol, Sociedad will be licking their lips at the chance to pepper Roberto’s goal.

La Real, who were held to a 1-1 draw against Osasuna last weekend, have the third-highest goal tally in the league (you can probably guess the top two), while Alaves have only mustered 29 goals in their 28 games.

The away side have the superior quality, but I also believe they are a very reasonable price to win

Northampton v Cheltenham – League Two Play-Offs – 19:45

The League Two play-offs are also on Thursday, and while it looks impossible to predict the result for a whole number of reasons, I do think under 2.5 goals in the first-leg of Northampton’s tie with Cheltenham is very likely.

Not only are first-legs of play-offs generally very tense, closely-fought and low-scoring, but the lack of crowd will no doubt mean the intensity of proceedings is reduced; both managers will prioritise caution above all else.

A whopping 64% of Cheltenham’s matches this season have seen under 2.5 goals (and an incredible 89% of their away games), while 54% of the Cobblers’ fixtures have seen under the three goals (63% at home).

Cheltenham are by some distance the best side in the league defensively, and they’ll be doing everything possible to ensure they take a positive result back to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
