Is your mouth watering? Well, perhaps it should be...
There’s little better than a belting Championship promotion six-pointer, and Leeds v West Brom certainly falls into this category.
Both sides lie just outside the automatic promotion places – Leeds four points better off than their guests – but a Baggies win on Friday would blow the whole thing even wider open.
Leeds come into this on the back of a bitterly disappointing defeat against QPR on Tuesday – ending the Hoops’ seven-game losing streak – while West Brom’s last outing was on Saturday against promotion rivals Sheffield United: they lost 1-0.
The Baggies’ extra rest, coupled with their supremely strong away form, is why I’m backing an away win on Friday.
Darren Moore’s side have won eight of their last nine Championship away games, and the fact that they’ve started keeping clean sheets is a bad sign for Leeds. Sam Johnstone has registered shut-outs in four of his last six games on the road, which is why I see the visitors claiming a tense-yet-crucial victory.
Leeds are less clinical than West Brom, and with two home defeats in their last five, the door has perhaps been left ajar for the away-day-masters.
This next tip might be a tad surprising, but I’m backing under 2.5 goals.
As I previously alluded to, West Brom have started developing a resilient side, and hard-fought away-wins-to-nil against Bolton, Stoke and Aston Villa in recent weeks does show their defence have (finally) sorted themselves out – at least on the road.
Just 47% of Leeds’ games at Elland Road have seen over 2.5 goals, and while the Baggies certainly aren’t afraid of troubling the scorers, the magnitude of the event might just see both managers take a more cautious approach.
Jay Rodriguez is a chunky 9/4 to score at any time on Friday, and that’s a good price for someone in such good form.
The Baggies striker has seven goals in his last 11 matches, and is by far their biggest goal threat right now.
West Brom have also scored 19 goals in their last nine away games, making this tip a real tempter.
