Newcastle vs West Brom: Newcastle to win
Newcastle can kick off Wednesday's Carabao Cup accumulator by making their Premier League quality count against West Brom at St James' Park.
Matthias Jaissle's first competitive game in charge ended in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, but the Magpies came within seconds of victory after twice taking the lead through Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock. Liverpool required a 99th-minute Dominik Szoboszlai penalty to rescue a point, with Newcastle producing plenty of encouragement in their first outing of the campaign.
There is also no questioning Newcastle's recent commitment to this competition. The Magpies have reached at least the quarter-finals in four consecutive Carabao Cup campaigns, finishing runners-up in 2023, reaching the last eight in 2024, winning the trophy in 2025 and making the semi-finals last season. Their most recent Carabao Cup defeat against lower-league opposition came back in December 2020, when Championship side Brentford won 1-0.
West Brom deserve plenty of respect after a perfect start to 2026/27. James Morrison's side have won all three competitive matches, beating Rotherham 4-1 in this competition before Championship victories over Norwich and Burnley. They have also lost just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions.
However, Albion are facing a significant step up in quality and will be without striker Aune Heggebø through suspension, while Mikey Johnston has also been carrying an injury concern. Newcastle possess enough squad depth to rotate while still naming a strong side at St James' Park, and their impressive recent record in the competition makes them our opening selection.
Tottenham vs Charlton: Tottenham to win to nil
Tottenham are expected to produce a response following their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Brentford on the opening Premier League weekend, and a home cup tie against Championship opposition provides Roberto De Zerbi with an immediate opportunity.
Spurs should also be stronger defensively than they were on Saturday. Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro are both back in the matchday squad, while De Zerbi has significant Premier League-level depth available even if he chooses to rotate at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Charlton have actually started the season superbly, winning all three competitive matches and scoring seven goals.
That record means the clean-sheet element is undoubtedly the aggressive part of this selection, but Spurs should dominate both possession and territory at home. Charlton are likely to spend long periods defending in a compact shape and looking to counter, while the return of Van de Ven and Porro strengthens De Zerbi's options at the back.
Tottenham's superior individual quality should ultimately tell, and they are backed to control the tie while keeping the Addicks off the scoresheet.
Bradford City vs Burnley: Both Teams to Score
Burnley's start to 2026/27 immediately points towards goals at both ends. Both teams have scored in all three of their competitive matches, with Nicky Hayen's side drawing 1-1 with Notts County in the first round of the Carabao Cup, drawing 2-2 with West Ham and then losing 3-1 at West Brom.
The Clarets have therefore scored in every match but are still waiting for their first clean sheet, conceding six times across their opening three fixtures.
Bradford could hardly arrive in better shape. Graham Alexander's side have won all three competitive matches without conceding, beating Rochdale 2-0 in this competition before following that result with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough and a 1-0 success at Sheffield Wednesday.
Their strength at Valley Parade is not a new development either. Bradford recorded an excellent 15-5-3 home league record last season, collecting 50 points from 23 matches on their own patch. That home advantage and their perfect scoring record this term gives them every chance of exposing a Burnley defence that has already looked vulnerable.
The main question is whether Burnley can become the first side to score against Bradford this season, but the Championship visitors have found the net in every competitive outing. With Burnley's 100% BTTS record meeting a Bradford side carrying serious momentum at home, goals at either end look an attractive angle.
Preston vs Everton: Everton to win to nil
Everton complete our 12/1 four-fold, with David Moyes' side fancied to make their superior quality count without conceding at Deepdale.
The Toffees made an excellent start to their Premier League campaign on Saturday, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 and opening the season with a clean sheet.
Preston, meanwhile, have lost both of their opening Championship matches. Paul Heckingbottom's side were beaten 2-1 by newly promoted Bolton before suffering a 3-1 home defeat against Wolves, conceding five league goals in the process.
Although North End have scored in both Championship fixtures, their goals have done little to disguise some underwhelming attacking displays. Jusef Erabi's strike at Bolton came in the 86th minute with Preston already 2-0 down, while Jordan Thompson's goal against Wolves was a 91st-minute consolation after the visitors had established a three-goal lead.
Moyes is likely to rotate, but Everton can still call upon considerable Premier League experience throughout their squad. Against a Preston attack that has struggled to create sustained pressure through its opening league matches, the visitors have a good opportunity to secure another victory while preserving their clean sheet.
