What a journey it’s been for Forest Green Rovers.

In just their second ever season in the Football League, Mark Cooper’s men are three matches away from League One, and I believe they’ve got a fantastic chance of going all the way.

Tranmere Rovers currently stand in their way, who themselves returned to the Football League this season after a three-year non-league exile.

This matchup looks fascinating. Tranmere have the joint-second-best home record in the division, while Forest Green have the second-best away record. If I was to lean one way on Friday, however, it would be in favour of the visitors.

Tranmere, after a run of seven straight victories, ended the season by amassing just six points from a possible 21, and have suddenly forgotten how score – netting just four times in this seven-game spell.

League Two Player of the Season and top-scorer James Norwood has been instrumental in getting Tranmere this far, but if Forest Green can keep him quiet over two legs, they’ll progress.

However, my Best Bet isn’t in the result market, it’s for Forest Green striker Christian Doidge to score at any time – priced at a very generous 9/4, which I see as better value than an FGR victory (13/5).

The Welshman has a very impressive record of 14 goals in 25 appearances this season, and with goals in four of his side’s last six, Doidge is certainly a man in-form.

Forest Green have 11 goals from their last five away games, and should they trouble the scorers on Friday, Doidge will likely be the man.
