Arsenal's poor away form sure to buoy Hammers.
This meeting between West Ham and Arsenal could be a cracker. Both sides are packed with destructive attacking talent, while neither are particularly good defensively – which is always a recipe for successful viewing.
After an uncharacteristically (in the last 15 years anyway) long unbeaten run, Arsenal have reverted back to their normal selves. Dropping points away at Southampton and Brighton, before being absolutely tonked by Liverpool, feels like the Arsenal we all know and love: inconsistent, unpredictable and always good for a meltdown.
Indeed, the Gunners have won just once away from home since early October, and for them to be favourites at evens is a little strange in my eyes.
West Ham do certainly have poor performances in them, but apart from their 4-0 defeat against Manchester City, they have performed well against the top sides at the London Stadium (beating Manchester United, drawing with Chelsea and a narrow 1-0 defeat against Spurs).
Marko Arnautović also returns from injury at the right time for the Hammers – shown with his point-saving brace against Brighton last week – and he will be sure to terrorise this incredibly vulnerable and suspect Arsenal defence.
This one should be fairly high-scoring, but I do see West Ham emerging with a positive result on home soil; a home win or draw double chance is my first tip.
Is Arnautović the best player outside the top six? It’s certainly worth consideration…
The mercurial Austrian has seven goals this season – including one against Arsenal at The Emirates – and I simply do not believe the Gunners’ back line can keep him quiet.
He showed his ruthless composure against Brighton (who, don’t forget, have a better defensive record that Arsenal) with an excellent brace and, at 28/17, I see him as a great goalscoring proposition.
I have a nice RAB to end with: West Ham to win or draw, BTTS in the second-half and over 2.5 goals in the match.
I’ve already outlined why I believe Arsenal won’t win, so that part of the bet is dealt with.
BTTS in the second-half looks likely considering 62% and 70% of West Ham and Arsenal’s goals have come in the second period respectively.
And over 2.5 goals? 90% of Arsenal’s away games have seen three or more goals, while the figure is 64% for West Ham at home.
This looks like a great outside bet.
