It does seem a little unfair that this unbelievable Liverpool side are likely to go yet another season without a trophy. Manchester City are just two wins away from the Premier League title, while Barcelona are in an utterly dominant position over them in Europe; Liverpool’s season finally seems to be grinding to a halt, where Jurgen Klopp, once again, may have nothing material to show for his team’s outstanding efforts.

Of course, his decision to essentially sacrifice the League Cup and FA Cup to concentrate on more important ventures can be criticised, but it’s ultimately given them a much better chance of winning the big ones. Unfortunately for them, however, it may all be in vain.

Anyway, Liverpool must keep going, and a victory over Newcastle on Saturday would put the pressure back on Manchester City as they prepare to face the potentially awkward customers of Leicester City.

Klopp’s side can only keep winning, but this trip to St. James’ has the potential to be incredibly frustrating – and maybe even season-ending.

The Magpies have won six of their last seven Premier League matches at home—including a 2-1 win over Manchester City—and despite winning their last three away games against Fulham, Southampton and Cardiff, Liverpool haven’t been particularly convincing in any of them.

The Barcelona result will have knocked the stuffing out of Liverpool. Regardless of how well they played and how jovial Klopp was post-match, that result would’ve hurt, and picking themselves up for this banana skin, just three days later, will be so, so difficult.

In my opinion, this is where Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge ends. The Reds haven’t won at St James’ since 2013, and Newcastle have shown time and time again how tough they are to beat.

The pressure will be solely on Liverpool, and with another trophy-less season staring them in the face, I think they’ll falter.

I’m backing a Newcastle/Draw double chance.

Newcastle/Draw - 1pt @ 123/50

Liverpool gave everything at the Nou Camp. That 90 minutes would have taken its toll physically and mentally, and the effects of this will still be present three days later at St. James’.

For that reason, I’m backing both teams to score.

Newcastle have scored at least twice in six of their last seven at home, while Liverpool have conceded away goals against Fulham and Southampton in recent weeks.

The Magpies will be fresh; Liverpool will not be. Both teams to score, at 11/10, looks a good option.

My final tip is a RAB: a header to be scored.

It’s an underrated facet of their game, but Liverpool have scored 16 headed goals this season – more than any other Premier League side.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson’s service, you can imagine why Liverpool score so many headed goals; 20 assists between them is phenomenal.

Newcastle also have Salomón Rondón—scorer of only the second headed Premier League hat-trick (behind Duncan Ferguson)—who is certainly no stranger to this type of goal.
