Goals are the name of the game when Everton face Spurs.
I mentioned during my midweek Carabao Cup previews that Liverpool v Arsenal was consistently the most entertaining top-flight matchup, but Everton v Spurs is not far behind.
In the last six matches between these two sides, 26 goals have been scored. That is absolutely outrageous.
And it’s fair to say, this season there is a lot on the line. Not only are the two outfits both consistently underperforming, but Marco Silva and Mauricio Pochettino appear a few poor results away from the exit – resignation perhaps more likely in Poch’s case, while for Silva it’s the axe.
The result looks devilishly tough to call. Spurs haven’t lost against Everton in their last 13 meetings with them—which is a quite extraordinary record—however, they have two away points in their five matches this season, which is atrocious.
As for Everton, the defeat against Brighton last weekend ensured they ended the gameweek in 16th place, just two points above the drop zone. At Goodison though, they’re generally pretty good – beating Watford, Wolves and West Ham on home soil thus far.
So I’m going to ignore the result market entirely (as no outcome would particularly surprise me), and plump with both teams to score in the first-half.
Not only have both sides scored a hatful of goals against each other in recent years, but Everton and Spurs have scored 69% and 70% of their goals this season in the first period respectively.
I like this play at 10/3.
Harry Kane has scored nine goals against Everton in his nine matches against him, and I’m backing him to find the net first on Sunday.
Kane has scored first in two of Spurs’ last three away games, while Everton have conceded at least twice in three of their five at Goodison.
I’ve thrown in each-way as well, to ensure profit should Kane strike at any time.
