Oddschecker betting data has revealed the five outright selections attracting the strongest support ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Punters are backing everything from Newcastle United to suffer a shock relegation to João Pedro challenging Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot. Tottenham, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest also feature prominently as bettors search for teams capable of exceeding pre-season expectations.
Here are five of the most popular Premier League outright bets placed through the Oddschecker platform.
1: Newcastle United - Relegation
Current best odds: 10/1
Newcastle United have emerged as the standout relegation bet among Oddschecker users, attracting 55% of all bets placed in the Premier League relegation market.
The Magpies are currently the ninth-favourites to go down at 10/1, but that price has shortened dramatically from 33/1 over the past two weeks. The movement reflects growing concern around a turbulent summer at St James’ Park.
Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have completed moves away from Newcastle, while Eddie Howe left the club at the end of July after almost five years in charge. Howe departed following a season in which Newcastle finished 12th, with reported tensions over the club’s transfer strategy contributing to the end of his tenure.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Bruno Guimarães. Newcastle have rejected an opening offer from Arsenal for their captain, but the Brazilian is reportedly interested in joining the Premier League champions. A sale would remove another central figure from a squad already adjusting to the loss of Gordon, Tonali and Howe.
Newcastle have attempted to replenish the squad with several younger signings, but the lack of established Premier League experience among their arrivals has raised questions over how quickly the rebuild can produce results.
Oddschecker bettors are also supporting a less extreme version of the same argument. Newcastle are 4/5 to finish in the bottom half, with the Magpies accounting for 62% of all bets placed in that market.
Relegation remains a major leap at 10/1, particularly with the transfer window still open. Nevertheless, the rapid price movement and popularity of both the relegation and bottom-half selections show how sharply confidence in Newcastle has fallen.
2: Tottenham Hotspur - Top 6 Finish

Tottenham Hotspur are being backed to deliver one of the Premier League’s biggest improvements this season.
Spurs are currently 11/10 and rated as the sixth-favourites to finish in the top six, with 31% of all bets placed through Oddschecker in the market supporting the north London club.
That would represent a sizeable turnaround after Tottenham entered the final day of last season still needing to secure their Premier League status. Roberto De Zerbi’s side began the final weekend only two points clear of the relegation zone, although their superior goal difference provided an additional layer of protection.
Their ambitious transfer business appears to have restored some confidence among bettors.
Tottenham’s confirmed summer recruits include Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka. The club has strengthened its midfield, defence and goalkeeping options, adding both proven Premier League performers and players capable of developing under De Zerbi.
Tonali and Fernandes could give Spurs greater control and intensity in midfield, while Van Hecke and Robertson add experience and quality to a defence that was repeatedly exposed last season.
There are still questions over Tottenham’s attacking options, and further additions may be required before the transfer window closes. However, the difference between last summer’s uncertainty and the current sense of direction is significant.
A top-six finish would demand a dramatic points increase, but almost one-third of Oddschecker bettors in the market believe Tottenham’s investment can inspire an immediate revival.
3 - João Pedro - Top Goalscorer

João Pedro has emerged as the clearest alternative to Erling Haaland in the early Premier League Golden Boot betting.
The Chelsea forward has attracted 16.7% of all top goalscorer bets placed through Oddschecker, narrowly behind Haaland on 17.3%. Alexander Isak is a more distant third, accounting for 9.6% of bets.
Pedro’s support follows an impressive first full campaign at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian finished as Chelsea’s leading Premier League scorer with 15 goals, while reaching 20 across all competitions without taking a penalty.
He has carried that form into pre-season. Pedro came off the bench to score a nine-minute hat-trick and register an assist during Chelsea’s 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers, providing an early indication that he is ready to remain the focal point of the attack.
Chelsea are also receiving wider support from Oddschecker users. They have been the most popular selection in the Premier League top-four market since the conclusion of the World Cup, suggesting bettors expect Xabi Alonso’s team to create the chances required for Pedro to challenge the division’s elite scorers.
The absence of European football could also help. Chelsea are not among the Premier League clubs competing in UEFA competition in 2026/27, meaning their leading players should benefit from fewer midweek commitments and less rotation.
Haaland remains the clear benchmark after winning the 2025/26 Golden Boot with 27 goals. Pedro would therefore need to improve substantially on last season’s total to finish above the Manchester City striker.
At 20/1, however, bettors are being compensated for that risk. His form, likely starting role and reduced schedule help explain why Pedro is receiving almost as many bets as the favourite.
4: Coventry City - Top Promoted Club

Coventry City have received overwhelming support to finish above the Premier League’s other promoted teams.
Frank Lampard’s side are 6/4 to be the top promoted club, with a remarkable 86% of all bets placed through Oddschecker in the market backing the Sky Blues.
Coventry earned their place in the Premier League by winning the 2025/26 Championship title in dominant fashion. They collected 95 points from 46 matches, scored a division-high 97 goals and finished with a goal difference of +52.
Only three clubs have scored more than 97 goals in a Championship season since the division adopted its current name, further demonstrating the attacking quality Lampard developed during the promotion campaign.
Lampard was named LMA Manager of the Year before signing a new Coventry contract running until 2029, ensuring the club enters its first Premier League season in 25 years with continuity in the dugout.
Coventry’s attacking approach will inevitably be tested against stronger opposition, while all three promoted clubs face the challenge of bridging the considerable gap between the Championship and Premier League.
The Sky Blues nevertheless enter the season with title-winning momentum and a clearly established identity. The scale of the betting split suggests Oddschecker users see Coventry as comfortably the best-equipped promoted team.
5: Nottingham Forest - Top Half Finish

Nottingham Forest complete the five most popular pre-season selections, with 17% of all top-half finish bets placed through Oddschecker supporting the Reds.
Forest and Leeds United are the two clear preferred selections in this market, combining for 28% of all top-10 finish bets.
The arrival of Oliver Glasner is a major reason for the optimism. Forest appointed the former Crystal Palace head coach in July, adding a manager who has previously demonstrated his ability to deliver immediate results and organise a Premier League team effectively.
Glasner will begin the season without Elliot Anderson after the England midfielder joined Manchester City in a deal reportedly worth £116 million. Anderson’s energy, passing and ball-carrying made him an important part of the Forest midfield, meaning his departure leaves a clear gap to fill.
Beyond Anderson, Forest have so far managed to retain much of their established core. Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Nikola Milenković all remain part of the current squad, giving Glasner a strong central structure around which to build.
Forest are also the most popular selection in the Premier League season handicap market. They have been given a 30-point advantage and are priced at 10/1 to finish top of the adjusted table, meaning this bet would win if they finished 29 points or fewer behind the 26/27 league champions.
The handicap support and top-half betting are based on the same idea. Bettors believe Glasner can improve an established squad without requiring an extensive rebuild.
Replacing Anderson remains a priority, but the new manager’s arrival and the retention of several key players have made Forest one of the most popular teams to outperform expectations.
