Low key events such as this one rarely interest me in terms of a bet but upon studying this one it throws up one or two selections worthy of support. Two courses will be played here over the first two days before they take to the Beach course for the weekend with cuts being made on both Friday and Saturday to facilitate both mens and womens events running alongside each other. Both courses have plenty of links features as well as sandbelt courses you'd see played on occasions in Australia. It's not an easy event to land and I'll be keeping my stakes relatively low.

The field is somewhat top heavy but with the jollies lining up at 14/1 it is wide open. It is hard to choose between any of the top 6 or 7 in the market with all of them having strong credentials and plenty going for them in an event such as this. There will be plenty of birdies though and I believe the favourites are vulnerable to some looking to get off the mark on the big stage. David Law did it last year and it'd be no surprise if a similar result plays out.

MATTHEW JORDAN (50-1 / 5 places) looks the pick of the bunch to me and at 50/1 represents a fair bit of value. For those who didn't know him previously he burst onto the scene in the middle of last year firing in a first round 63 to take the first round lead of the British Masters at Close House. He showed what he could do on links once again by finishing 5th in the Dunhill Links later in the year. He gained his tour card and has gotten off to a rough start in the Desert Swing, A trip to Australia and these part linksy tracks should be right up his street. He has won the St Andrews Trophy at Hoylake and has also bagged the Lytham Trophy. Given a Scot won here last year, and the wind is set to play its part, Jordan is better equipped than most to cope with the task.

Some bigger prices have evaporated on ZACH MURRAY (100-1 / 5 places) but triple figures is still available at the time of writing. The Aussie slips under the radar this week despite achieving a lot in his short career to date. Most notable was the New Zealand Open victory where he beat the likes of Janewattananond, Fox and a host of others who are much shorter than him in the market this week. He opened with a 67 a few weeks ago in Abu Dhabi eventually finishing the event in 21st spot. This field is weakened significantly compared to that in Abu Dhabi and a similar performance will see him giving the place part of this bet a chance at the very least.

I'll dabble with Dutchman DARIUS VAN DRIEL (150-1 / 6 places). In the past five years or so he has a number of wins and top 3 finishes across various tours and that counts for a lot in a field like this when you're used to being in contention. The move from the Alps Tour to Challenge and now to the big tour has went smoothly and he looks a value price to me to go well here. Just last year he finished second to Migliozzi in the Belgian Knockout beating many household names in the process. The Rolex was a big victory for him on the Challenge Tour last year also. A 6th placed spot at the 2016 Aussie PGA is another positive that he can go well in these parts. Surprised he is such a big price.

0.75pt each-way D. Van Driel 150/1 (1/4 6 places)

Finally I'll take a punt on CORMAC SHARVIN (90-1 / 5 places). Irish Golfers in general tend to overachieve if anything and I'd not be surprise should Sharvin make a bold bid for glory this week, Sharvin played magnificent stuff on the Challenge Tour last year and has been another to get off to a slow start in his first few jaunts of the season. This is a better chance to score though and Sharvin showed what he could do when finishing 15th in the Irish Open last year. Playing out of Ardglass, a somewhat manufactured links could be an advantage for the lad as he heads to these two tracks. He is very talented and looks sound mentally so could get his season up and running here.
