Round Three

Si Woo Kim to win three ball

Thankfully there were some positives on day two for our outright bets and with a couple of two ball winners we go into the weekend with renewed optimism. Another who will be in the same bracket and who I like in his two ball today is Si Woo Kim. The Korean struggled off the tee on Thursday but put things right yesterday shooting 2 under in the afternoon and getting back into the mix. In fact he looked like going a lot better than his 70 yesterday succumbing to a couple of late bogeys. Nevertheless, it was another solid round in tough conditions which showed his likeness for Augusta. 12th last year and two other top 25 efforts is a fine display around here and I believe he will make further gains up the leaderboard over the weekend. He is up against Kokrak who struggled with all parts of his game yesterday. Off the tee and approach was poor (57th and 69th respectively) and with conditions set to get even more challenging over the weekend-long game is going to become important as missing greens is almost always going to end up with dropped shots. Kim knows what it takes around here at the weekends and has more experience than Kokrak at Augusta so should be able to dispatch of him around the even money mark.

Round 3 Conners/Smith

Corey Conners to win Round 3 three-ball

My second and final bet of the day will be on Corey Conners who has played extremely well this week once again and can enjoy a weekend at the Masters where it will be extremely tough to hit greens. That is where he excels and I don't think he'll be too far down the leaderboard come Sunday evening. His usual frailties on and around the greens have been shoved aside this week and he ranks first at halfway in strokes gained around the green. His long game as ever is in solid nick also and I expect this to be pivotal over the final few days. Smith and Conners rank 4th and 5th in SG T2G and this is mainly because of Conners' short game, and Smith's approach play. Smith has been average off the tee (ranking 49th) and although that doesn't prove to be too important he will need to maintain a top approach game in order to hang on to his score. I think if anything he may struggle over the weekend and I'd prefer the game of Conners right now who is enjoying another great Masters effort. I don't have an awful lot between these two on pre tournament prices so I'm more than happy to nibble at the 6/4 Conners today.
