Niall Lyons has four tips for the final round of the US Open at Pinehurst.
US Open 2024
Bryson DeChambeau will prove a tough nut to crack this evening and he has earned himself a well-deserved three shot lead. However, as we saw on 16 last night disaster can be around the corner at every turn here at Pinehurst and there is no guarantee he will avoid another such episode tonight.
US Open Final Round Predictions
- 1pt WIN H.Matsuyama Outright 20/1 (General)
- 2pts WIN S.Scheffler Lowest Round 4 Score 11/1 (Sky Bet)
- 1pt each-way T.Fleetwood Lowest Round 4 Score 28/1 (1/4 5) Sky Bet
- 1pt each-way S.Lowry Lowest Round 4 Score 45/1 (1/4 5) Sky Bet
Hideki Matsuyama to Win @ 20/1
If he goes around in level par he should win but if there is anyone who can go really low behind him to pick up the victory it is Hideki Matsuyama. A final round 62 at Riviera saw him scythe through the field to take that title back in February.
His short game and approach can be absolutely lethal and if Bryson shoots a 72 today Hideki is more than capable of coming from behind and shooting a couple of under par to scare the leaders down the last couple of holes. Of those behind the leader Hideki certainly looks the biggest value play.
1pt WIN H.Matsuyama Outright 20/1 (General)

Scottie Scheffler Lowest Round 4 Score @ 11/1
Scottie Scheffler has endured a tough US Open to this point. There was little doubt this track had the ability to level the playing field between him and the field and that's exactly what has happened.
The best player in the world didn't want uncertainty with wayward tee shots and luck playing a part whether you get a playable lie or not.
The best player in the world didn't want overly punished by hitting the ball five feet beyond the pin. Nevertheless, Scheffler was a general 12/1 shot to lead after day one with a full field and with 11/1 available today to shoot the lowest score with less than half of the day one competitors, I believe it's worth a punt.
Scheffler often finds a way to finish high up the leaderboard even on his 'poor' weeks and he'll be determined not to languish down the pack.
Tommy Fleetwood Lowest Round 4 Score @ 28/1 (Five Places)
Tommy Fleetwood has flown through the field many times on day four of Major Championships and is worth siding with once again.
I selected him on day four of the PGA last month and he duly placed with a final round of 65. That final round was just added to the pile of a handful of special efforts when out of contention.
Earlier this year he shot 69 on Sunday of the Masters to finish 3rd. At LACC he shot 63 on day four to finish 5th. Two final round 67s at the Open and PGA in 2022 as well as a 63 at Shinnecock back in 2018 means Fleetwood is one of the most feared in this market on Sundays.
His irons have failed to fire this week but he's driving the ball well and giving himself chances so an improvement today on approach could see him go low.
1pt each-way T.Fleetwood Lowest Round 4 Score 28/1 (1/4 5) Sky Bet
Shane Lowry Lowest Round 4 Score @ 45/1 (Five Places)
Rory McIlroy is a 7/2 shot to win this event but with DeChambeau three shots ahead may need the lowest round to win. 12/1 is out there for him to do that and I'd probably prefer to back that if I was wanting an interest in McIlroy this evening.
However, my final selection in this market will go the way of Shane Lowry. The Irishman, like Fleetwood, hasn't turned up with a good approach game this week and that has been his undoing.
Lately it has been the short game that has been the problem, but that hasn't been an issue this week and predictably he has relished the task on and around the greens at Pinehurst.
However, he ranks 14th on tour this season on strokes gained approach and if he can find a way today of reaching those heights he may just be the one to come through the field for a high finish.
1pt each-way S.Lowry Lowest Round 4 Score 45/1 (1/4 5) Sky Bet
