Niall Lyons runs through the key trends at the 2026 Masters and lands on one name who ticks them all.
US Masters
There can be numerous trends that can be applied to the Majors but with the Masters being played on the same venue every single year means that we have some reliable pointers as to who could contend each year.
Of course it's never as easy as whittling down the field via these avenues but it did point us towards Tommy Fleetwood two years ago who finished in a tie for 3rd place and McIlroy and Dechambeau were the two left standing last year who both fought it out in the final group.
US Masters 2026 Trends
- 24 of the last 26 winners came from the top 30 in the world rankings (or top 30 Datagolf rankings)
- 27 of the last 28 winners made the cut the year before they won the Masters
- 16 of the last 18 winners had a finish of 22nd or better in the Masters
- 20 of the last 23 winners were 27 years of age or older
- 15 of the last 17 winners had 4 wins or more
- 15 of the last 17 winners had a win on USA soil within 2 years of winning the Masters
- 58 of the last 61 winners failed to defend their crown
- 14 of the last 16 winners had a top 6 finish in a Major in the previous 2 years
- 16 of the last 17 winners ranked inside the top 50 in Driving Distance before winning
- 9 of the last 13 had won this season
This year we shall spread the trends wider. I have put them in the order of importance. I have included the top 30 in the Datagolf rankings for the purpose of narrowing the field.

These for me look the strong pointers as to who could go well at this years Masters. For any LIV golfers if their driving distance yardages for the season would be enough to get inside the top 50 on the pgatour I shall give them a pass for that trend.

This time we have two golfers who can't be eliminated. They are Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Dechambeau.
Scheffler hasn't been his sparkling self this last couple of months and I doubt many will be falling over themselves to back him as a result.
US Masters 2026 Trends Tip & Best Bet
This makes Bryson Dechambeau the Trends pick for 2026. 5th and 6th here the last two years and he looks to have figured out the short game around Augusta.
With two wins in the run in also he looks the strongest candidate and will more than likely be the most popular bet amongst punters next week.
At the time of publishing he is a best price of 12/1 with AKBets.
