Sedgefield Country Club, Greensboro, North Carolina.  A throwback of sorts, this Donald Ross design is all about accuracy from the tee, a solid wedge game and Bermuda putting. This isn't like the recent birdie fests on tour, although low scoring this is a much more intricate golf course that demands a neat long game and a silky putting touch.

Simpson, Stenson, Snedeker, Kisner, Tom Kim, Glover and Rai and have won this event and this gives us a solid profile of what is needed for success around this golf course. Powerful sorts don't often make the frame here as this is a track almost impossible to bully from the tee.

Cam Young bucked that trend a little last year when ranking 2nd in driving distance. He was the best putter in the field though which certainly trumped all other aspects. Other Ross designs such as Detroit and East Lake are worthy of note as well performances on similar courses like Harbour Town, Waialae, Deere Run and Sea Island.

There have been four triple figure priced winners of this in the last ten renewals so attention further down the betting board is well advised here.

Ryan Gerard at 25/1 (Ten Places)

In what looks like a challenging market on the whole Ryan Gerard stands out  as a viable option towards the top of the market and he rates as my top selection.

Gerard has missed two from two cuts here but the reason for that has been two really bad weeks on the greens. He is putting much better recently and that can be the catalyst for an improved effort in 2026. He ranked 1st in strokes gained putting two weeks on the trot at the beginning of the summer at Colonial and Muiefield Village.

He has gained strokes with that club every week since including last week where he ranked 5th in that department. Ball striking wise he is on a good run also gaining shots in all departments of the game in his last two outings.

One of those was a top 10 at the Open Championship which should give him a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season.

Long and straight off the tee I hope he can follow more in Young's footsteps the way he won last year The venue should be perfect, I expect a big upturn in fortunes compared to his last two appearances here.

Blades Brown at 50/1 (Ten Places)

Jackson Koivun and Michael Thorbjornsen have lit up the PGA Tour in the last couple of weeks and it's going to give an awful lot of motivation to the maidens. One I'm happy to side with here who could easily piggy back on the last two winners is Blades Brown. Having only just turned 19 a couple of months ago Brown is a raw talent and it remains to be seen has he got the class to break down the door on this stage as he is winless on all tours. However he is remarkably consistent and his form lately has been eye catching. 5th and 6th in his last two Korn Ferry Tour events mean he is in solid form but it's worth noting how well he has played when upped in class. His last six PGA Tour events read 3-40-9-12-11. That is a solid return and this is certainly not the strongest field. Brown is a really solid ball striker and Sedgefield should really suit. Throw in the fact that he has won at this venue when claiming the 2023 Junior Invitational then we have someone who has that extra bit in his locker to perform here. Let's not ignore the trend of the last two weeks, Brown will be eager to throw his hat into the ring.

Sungjae Im at 45/1 (Ten Places)

Sungjae Im has a nice record here and certainly doesn't appear to be too far away from being there at the death in one of these event.s Having gone with him at 70/1 last week I will go again at a air bit shorter but on a course that is probably more suitable. Last week in Detroit was Im's best week with the irons since the Valspar in March where he finished 4th. That is two decent efforts on approach last week and two weeks prior at Birkdale. That is the primary issue why Sungjae has gone off the boil a little in recent years and a return to Sedgefield where he has a runner up in 2022 and a further two top tens may just have come at the perfect time. He is putting reasonably well and any upturn with his wedge play this week could see him in the mix come Sunday evening.

William Mouw at 125/1 (Eight Places)

William Mouw now heads to a golf course where ball striking is key and I'm hoping this is a catalyst for a better result. His iron play recently has been really good ranking 13th last week, 3rd at the ISCO, and 10th at the John Deere.

Even in his missed cut at the 3M Open he ranked 22nd with his irons on day one and 12th on day two. He is hitting the ball extremely well and just needs an upturn with the putter. Once again that aspect was missing last week but maybe there was a glimmer on Sunday where he ranked 11th for the final 18 on the greens.

He putted quite well on debut here last year when finishing 38th and he's one of the more interesting runners further down the odds board.
