The last four editions of this event have been held at TPC Southwind and prior to that we know this course from holding the Fedex St Jude Classic since 1989. The tournament moved to WGC status in 2019 then from 2022 onwards formed part of the Fedex playoff events.
The top 70 in the Fedex rankings make their way to Memphis this week and in the stats table below I've included the last four years this course has held an event. Traditionally off the tee hasn't featured an awful lot here but there's little doubt in the last two renewals ball striking features a lot more predominantly.
Also look to what happens from the second shot onwards with greens in regulation being a fair pointer. Two years ago the GIR stats of the top 6 golfers read 4th, 11th, 8th, 3rd, 8th, 4th.
Last year the first four home were ranked inside the top 7 in that statistic. The leader in scrambling has made the top 5 in three of the last five years .

Scottie Scheffler (WIN) at 11/2
I grappled with a handful to bet here in this limited field but I keep coming back to the tournament favourite. Just like many parts of the world, Scheffler is in the middle of a 'drought' but I have felt all along there will be a moment to have a proper bet at nice odds as he will eventually end up back in the winners enclosure.
Whether it ends up being this week or in the near future remains to be seen, but I am absolutely certain this is the time to weigh in at prices of 5/1 or bigger. Scheffler wasn't a whole lot bigger a handful of weeks ago to win the Open Championship, a course that most agreed wasn't perfect for him, especially following a missed cut in Scotland.
He holed absolutely nothing and finished 4th. A week later he holed a fair bit more at Twin Cities but was outdone by someone who many consider to be a future world number one. He isn't knocking on the door, he is behind it with an axe Jack Nicholson style and eventually the person on the other side will not be able to get away.
As a punter it is all about timing with a player like Scheffler. Personally I haven't made money off Scheffler as a whole, landing him once or twice but never throughout his pomp, nor in Majors. This time around I believe we have a huge opportunity to pounce.
It's worth noting that at the turn of the year he was 7/2 for the Masters and around half a point bigger for the rest. Since then he has a victory and five runner up finishes to his name. A further five top 5 finishes is simply remarkable but the winless since January narrative remains and has forced bookmakers to push him out towards this price.
He went off a general 4/1 shot for the Travelers and looked to have that event won in a playoff before Hovland pipped him. Since then a missed cut in Scotland was followed by 4th at the Open and 2nd at the 3M Open.
McIlroy is the only addition to the field from that event and having gone extremely close on three occasions since I simply can't have any drift in him whatsoever. I'd make the argument that he should be 4/1 tops here.
Whilst we are here, backing the favourite does not mean you can not add further golfers to your staking plan. Betting sleuths pontificate online as to how you should only be allowed a a max of one more bet in the tournament if you're backing Scheffler.
Nonsense. Scheffler can be value, and so indeed could 20 others. 50 more could be negative value. In this instance though I'm choosing to leave it at the one bet this week because I just don't see the upside with many others.
Aberg came close to being selected but my mind is focused on one player only this week and it's the world number one. It's time to bet like a champion.
