Our FRL tips ahead of this week's Irish Open.
Shaun Norris at 85/1 (Five Places) - 1pt EW
Shaun Norris goes off at 10:15 in the 17th group of the day.
Norris has two FRL finishes in his last 10 outings, along with a further three top-five first-round finishes and one top-10 finish over that period.
He also arrives here in decent form, with a tied-seventh finish at the Nexo Championship, a links course, just three weeks ago. If it weren't for a very poor 78 in the final round of the British Masters, he would have been in good stead for another solid finish there, having sat tied third at the halfway point and tied 27th heading into Sunday. He also finished the first round tied fourth.
At the Nexo Championship, he shot a 69, the second-lowest score of the second round, before firing a 66 in round three, the lowest score of the day. That is very encouraging, as the Nexo has been staged at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire for the last two years and, like this week's venue, the Scottish track is also a Martin Hawtree-designed course with bentgrass greens.
Three rounds of par or better at this year's Open Championship, where Norris sat tied 38th heading into Sunday, provide further evidence that he can handle the links test. His tied-36th finish at the Scottish Open this year is also respectable form on another links course.
He claimed his ninth Japan Tour victory in June when winning the Mizuno Open by five strokes and has recorded seven top-seven finishes or better in 2026, so he is clearly playing some good golf this year.
Jacob Scov Olesen at 66/1 (Four Places) - 1pt EW
Jacob Scov Olesen arrives here in some of the best form of anyone in the field, with recent finishes of 2nd-16th-9th-6th.
He should relish the links setup at Trump International, with his recent results on links or links-style courses including a tied-16th finish at the 2026 Nexo Championship, a tied-twenty-third at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Championship, a tied-fifth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and a tied-third at the 2025 Nexo Championship. He also finished 8th in last year's Irish Open.
Scov Olesen shot two rounds of 67 last week at the European Masters to help himself to a tied-second finish. He finished the opening round tied fourth, while his round-three 67 was the second-lowest score of the day.
That joins a strong list of recent low-scoring rounds:
- 66 in Round 4 at the Nexo Championship – second-lowest score of the day
- 67 in Round 1 of the Corales – tied ninth after the opening round
- 67 in Round 3 of the Corales
- 65 in Round 3 of the ISCO Championship – one shot off the lowest score of the round
He has also started strong in recent weeks with first round finishes of 4-6-34-9 in his last four tournaments.
With his current form, proven links record and ability to produce low scores, Scov Olesen looks well suited to this week's test.
