Bermuda ChampionshipSee All Odds

The Port Royal Golf course here at Bermuda is a quaint one measuring short of 7000 yards. It is a very undulating track which is exposed to the elements and the wind will blow steady throughout the four days. Rain is currently in the forecast for Thursday so we could see pretty tough conditions play out over the first couple of days. It was maybe no surprise we got an Irish winner of this event a few years ago as the elements played their part.

The course held the Grand Slam of Golf from 2009 to 2014 but it is the recent editions of this event that we look to as this course has held the event for the past six years.

Seamus Power came out on top three years ago and prior to that an Irish Open winner in the shape of Lucas Herbert won and he is well known for his credentials in the wind. A Scottish Open winner Alex Noren and a former Silver Medal winner at the Open Matthias Schmid were 2nd and 3rd three years ago so clearly if we can find folk with similar profiles at value prices then they'll make the staking plan.

Harbour Town, Waialae, Sea Island, El Cameleon and El Cardonal as well as efforts here and in Puerto Rico are worthy of some attention in an attempt to narrow down our search for a winner.

Austin Eckroat at 40/1 (Eight Places)

Camilo Villegas finished 2nd at El Cardonal before going on to win here the following week. Ben Griffin won at the same venue in Mexico last year and has posted a 3rd and 8th placed finish here in three tries. It would be foolish to ignore that and I'll opt for another winner at El Cardonal in the shape of Austin Eckroat. Eckroat isn't exactly pulling up trees but he has only posted one missed cut in his last fourteen events. He still remains in the bubble spots though currently ranked 121st in the Fedex standings. His short game has picked up lately, in particular the putter and he's currently having his best season on tour to date with that club. With inevitable missed greens here short game plays a big role and Eckroat has been passing that test of late. He ranked 6th in ball striking last time out at the Biltmore so he remains a dangerous operator in this type of test having won at PGA National.

Mackenzie Hughes at 40/1 (Eight Places)

Another with plenty to play for over the next month is Mackenzie Hughes who has a wealth of impressive finishes on correlating golf courses. A former winner of the RSM Classic he has two further runner up finishes there whilst a runner up at PGA National and a 3rd placed finish at Harbour Town are both relevant. His approach play is the big negative heading into this week but with the wind blowing he should be penalised less than usual as plenty in the field will be missing greens here. Instead look to his short game which is really firing (bar a bad week with the putter in Utah). He should be able to make plenty of gains in that department throughout the week and any improvement with the irons could see him go really close.

Haotong Li at 60/1 (Six Places)

Haotong Li went well for a long way of this years Masters Championship but those dizzying heights was not a sign of what was to come for the rest of the season. A string of missed cuts and lowly finishes followed and it made grim reading until he came back to Europe. 18th in Crans was backed up by 14th at the Irish Open at Doonbeg then he did extremely well to follow up those finishes with a 10th place at the Biltmore in a busy few weeks. He struggled a little in Utah but that was mostly down to the short game. His credentials for this test are pretty good given his record in the Open Championship. 3rd in 2017 and 4th in 2025 suggests he can cope with the breeze and a win in Qatar where many wind specialists have thrived is another positive. He doesn't have a lot of experience on these tests on the PGA Tour but he has already posted a top 15 finish at Waialae. He has extra motivation this week also sitting 126th in the standings, one spot out of the conditional status exemption and he will be looking to post a big effort in the next four weeks to try in bully his way into the top 100. This looks as good a place as any and is maybe his best chance.

Adam Svensson at 160/1 (Eight Places)

A triple figure shot who I'm happy to have on side here is Adam Svensson. The Canadian will find it a struggle to compete on many golf courses these days with a lack of length off the tee but Port Royal should grant some grace in that department. The big positive lately has been his irons ranking 8th in strokes gained approach at the Biltmore then 5th in the same department in Utah. The putter was the main reason why he finished down the field that week. This golf course should be easier off the tee for him and should he continue to play well with the irons will have a much better chance of competing here. A former winner at the RSM Classic as well as another top 10 there and at Waialae, his credentials are strong enough for this test.

Kevin Streelmen at 66/1 (Eight Places)

Chris Kirk is a big runner here and has been priced accordingly. His ball striking of late has been tremendous but I find it difficult to take the plunge given the obvious weakness with the putter. Emiliano Grillo was another who entered my shortlist but given how kind this event has been to the more experienced types Kevin Streelmen makes the grade. The two time winner on tour turns 48 next month and currently sits 133rd in the standings. With plenty to play for he can take a lot of confidence from his 5th placed finish in the Bank of Utah Championship two weeks ago and this looks like a great venue on which to build upon that. Streelman has an excellent record at Pebble Beach, a course often shortened for the pro am. From 2012 through to 2021 he posted a runner up, three further top 10s and three top 20s. Brian Gay won this event when 48 years of age and others in the twilight of their career have featured here.
